Shouldn't we cook so.'s goose by wasting energy till march

If we all switch on a few more lamps and put our radiator to a few degrees fahrenheit higher and if we take some detour on our daily trips with the car.
Shoudln't that be enough to bring some big wrinkles into all the faces who have to do with energy planning?
Wouldn't it be worth to prevent a new war for energy?
From april on everybody can do his best again to save the world by saving energy (surely first of all by insulating his home, second by insulating his home and at the very best at third position by insulating his home and driving with bicycle...... )
Okay, you got me, the last thing was a joke ;-)

I thought this was going to a thread about peak oil and cooking.

Seriously, I was talking to some agronomists/food scientists over the holidays (about food, not about peak oil), and they mentioned that lack of firewood is often the reason behind Asian cooking techniques. For example, stir-frying in China. It's a very quick cooking method that requires little fuel. Ditto the popularity of raw foods in Japan. Sashimi requires no firewood to prepare.

What about an oversalten soup

Unread postby Frozen-Stick » Sat 07 Jan 2006, 21:36:45

This phrase was the recommendation of my dictionary. I will say a few uncomfortable words to it, if you have understood my sentence wrong!

In German we would say (in direct English): "To spit in someones soup"
or "To oversalt someones soup".
But i think you got me correctly :)

I'm just reading the thread about stocking up the emergency supplies because of eventual bird flu break out.

So i think my advice with wasting energy is a bit too late.
The real peak oil problem seems to be in the near future.

For me the bird flu panic is a hoax, organized by - at least - the leaders of the worlds leading nations, because they want to gloss over the peak oil problem. But perhaps it is better to have panicking people in drug stores and supermarkets than riots at gas stations because of a dry up of gasoline.

The result of bird flu measures sure will be a strong decline in flight numbers. Because when the break out of the bird flu pandemie is published in the media, everyone wants to avoid masses.

The oil will be getting a lot cheaper because of all the cancelled flights.

By the way, with all this erosion happening all the time in china in the past years and now, even with this sort of cooking, the chinese people get a problem in the next years:
The food will be getting also quite expensive (Import of grain (?) since about three years)!

Well, there are banana farms in Hawai`i, which is part of the U.S. :) Dunno if durian would grow there. I rather hope not. They say durian has "the taste of all fruits mixed together, and the smell of the sea when the tide is out." They're right about the smell... :P

In ancient Hawai`i, it was forbidden for women to eat bananas. There were a lot of foods forbidden to women: pork, red fish, bananas, and more. Men were responsible for all aspects of food preparation: farming, fishing, and cooking. Probably to keep the women from eating the forbidden foods. I strongly suspect that this was a way of dealing with overpopulation and food scarcity. Not feeding the females is a pretty effective way of limiting population growth.

And they were definitely living on the edge in Hawai`i. It never reached the point that Easter Island did, but there are stories of battles where the army survived the battle but starved to death afterwards, because the land could not produce enough to support both the locals and the invading army.
