')Omnitir, if you had the most basic understanding of biology (the study of life), you would know that uncontrolled growth in nature comes mainly in the form of gigantism or cancer. Which in most cases leads to death. At an ecological level uncontrolled growth leads to overshoot and die-off. A natural healthy system or organism does not grow infinitely.
Growth in nature isn’t limited to cancer – it’s how all organisms live.
Either life grows, or it dies.
Being against growth, although you may not realise it, is being against life.
Grow or die.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('seldom_seen', '
')A natural healthy system or organism does not grow infinitely.
It grows as the resources permit, only stopping as the resources run out. A natural healthy system does not leave available resources untouched. It grows until it’s environment can no longer support it, just as all life throughout time has always done, just as we have done.
First, metabolism and growth are not the same thing. The point was that once an organism reaches "maturity", it stops getting bigger and bigger and bigger. How tall are you? The only way you can grow after adulthood is in weight, not height. And if germs kept growing in size, well gee, we couldn't get infected by them because we'd have to do hand to hand combat with them now wouldn't we?
As for not leaving available resources untouched, while part of that statement is true in that everything tends to eat something else, it is not true that every bit of that resource is used up until there is none left. Only humans will deplete a resource until none is left, except for maybe baitballs, but then, they have also left their eggs in breeding grounds, which also get eaten, but not so completely that none of the eggs hatch and make it to maturity to reproduce the next generation.
If consumption was so complete that everything was consumed completely, there wouldn't be much life left on the planet and humans would certainly not have had the adundance they once found. That is until industrialism made overfishing and clear cutting and guns and traps so efficient that we can actually hunt something down to extinction.
The problem is not that the sun's energy is abundant and we should have been tapping it long ago. The problem is the notion of what the term "unlimited" implies. Even the human body is not capable of an "unlimited" orgasm. There is always a refractory period and such a state cannot be maintained permanently anyway lest one die of starvation no matter how much some folks would like it too. The problem is the idea that the word "no" should be stricken from human speech, that restraint has no place in human thought, and that limits are merely an infringement of personal license. To me, this is just toddler behavior, the terrible twos as it were, exhibited by so-called adults. Grow up. You don't live in this world all by yourself nor can you do any thing you please just because you THINK you can. A few acid trippers found out about gravity the hard way. N'est ce pas?
