I like complaining about my job
But seriously. I think my job is pretty cool. I do what I like to do and get paid for it. And once in a while I do something which actually useful.
The only thing which has been bugging me lately is the way the system is clogging up by the people from support.
I have this theory about them.
It all starts when one of them is hired in human resources, project support financial support etc. This guy or girl quickly discovers that he/she is actually pretty redundant. Fearing for their jobs they start thinking about ideas to increase their workload and to safeguard their job.
Then in a sudden brainwave they come up with this idea. They will design their own procedure with their own form. A form which only they can sign. If you have your own form then you are truly indispensable.
They run to the boss en tell them about this idea to 'streamline' the operations. They tell them how they read in this or that magazine about a procedure, how fashionable it is among the blockbuster companies, that it can be implemented in SAP etc.
And then the trouble starts. This procedure is backfiring on them and is quickly clogging up the system overloading them with work. Besides they discover that signing forms is not so much fun as they anticipated. A concerned boss comes to ask why operations are slowing down. They reply that it is not the procedure, but the fact that they have not enough manpower to keep things running. They tell him to hire more of them.
If you have a boss which is susceptible to this kind of crap then you might end up in the same situation where I am now. If I want to order a pack of paper-clips I have to log on to the automated buying system, fill in about four forms, have them signed by three people, and bring them to this guy who will order them for me (Hopefully, because an order for a thousand paper-clips might well up ending as an order for one thousand packs of paper-clips.).
Anyway I guess that anyone who works for a large enough company is familiar with this phenomenon.
