Is Any Of This Really That "Deep" ?

Unread postby BILL_THA_PHARMACIZT » Sat 05 Nov 2005, 04:36:50

okay - so peak oil is on the horizon...

The potential for nuclear war has been around for a bit longer - is it really any worse than what has always been starring everyone in the face?

I am 29 , I have decent employment but by U.S. financial standards im fucking poor... I took an airplane trip for the 2nd time in my life about 3 weeks ago..

I had a window seat and was looking down at all the little human beings driving around in their tiny cars and the houses and agriculture...

and I was thinking about "peak oil"...

look, human beings are VERY SMALL relative to the entire worlds land mass... I read that you can fit the entire population of the world comfortably in less space than the size of texas .....

I read a poster write on this board that peak oil isn't an energy crisis - its a liquid fuel "crisis"..which I AGREE with... its also a CULTURAL and SOCIAL crisis more so than anything.....

the empirical reality is WE ARE LIVING WAYYYY ABOVE OUR MEANS....

you DON'T NEED a super market full of crispy creams, pastries and beer.

I DO think we need to understand these things as a way to serve as an intelligensia of educated people as a means of survival- and pull out that information when need be to build up a social safty net for like minded individuals who don't have a million dollars stashed away somewhere -

but beyond that none of us really have any control... if you try and "control" you will go insane - I know - i'm trying to find a therapist right now...
people are going to persue whatever they percieve to be in their own interests and thats always changing because everything in life is in constant motion

What ever happened to your avatar, it seems bloated (nevertheless good, but comes over somewhat bully with the arms folded). Where have you been anyway? Good to see you back on the forum! Notice that you entered this board just three days before I did!

No, it isn't that deep at all.

It all comes down to food.

I agree, Iowa farms requires the energy equivilent of 4,000 Nagasaki bombs a year. Corn, Wheat, Rice are plants that require a catastrophic niche, and it takes a lot of energy to create that niche. Plus there are other problems with argriculter right now, besides peak oil. I think food will become ever more important in the days ahead.

do you mean fossil fuel input and energy for irrigation , tractors etc......... or did you accidently happen to include sunlight in this analysis.

well, when we see animals balloon past sustainablity and then die off due to starvation we don't bat an eye. SO I guess its really not that big a deal...so why are we posting on here then?

That's the problem, the wells aren't deep enough (or wide enough, or many enough).

How do you get an avatar that big in, anyway? Don't they have a pixel dimension limitation?
