@ cynthia: I will definitely go for the snip but timing is everything. I thought we had decided to be a one child family (our daughter is 2), but recently my wife has been giving me the tap on the shoulder (you know the one ) and talking about a second. I do not have sufficient conviction to deny her if our situation permits a second child and she really wants one (hey, I sure do love my daughter and am sure I would love a second as well). Besides, while I believe in preparation and have an overwhelming sense things in the world are going downhill, I do not intend to live my life from under a rock. I will continue to dream about the future, even if I do worry more about it now than I did in my 20s.

My doctor told me last week that BC is on ly 97% effective and is toxic of course. he suggests an IUD. although even up here they cost $300. they are good for 10 years so although they cost a lot up front you can make up for the cost down the road easily. and they are 99% effective.

this way you don't have to worry about using saran wrap or long term escalating costs of BC. One brand name you can look up is Mirena. here's a link to a slightly less biased take on them
