The only way I can see to ration NG is to cut off big users such as utilities, large office buildings, factories, etc. This would cause significant economic problems.

The UK is potentially facing a natural gas shortfall this winter and this is exactly how the British government is going to deal with the problem. Industrial users with suspendable contracts will get hit first.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'Y')es, someone posted something about farmers planning not to plant as much next year because fertilizer is getting too expensive.

That's great, to avoid freezing this winter you will plant less. What are you going to do when you are hungry next year?

All hail the great market solutions!

Just saw it now: $3.79/gallon diesel.

Ouch.

At what diesel price point does a diesel engine cost more to run then a gas engine?

Volkswagon TDI 50mpg
Vokswagon 1.8 25mpg

Pretty obvious - when the diesel price is double gas. The same gas station was selling premium gas for $3.29.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('EnemyCombatant', 'I') refuse to believe this is a 'stupidity' problem.

So you're in denial then? :-D

To paraphrase Arnold Rimmer.

There are significant amounts of NG in private stores too. My utility company says they have enough laid away to get through winter even if other supplies are cut off completely. The question is, at what price?
