$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Starvid', 'E')lectric scooters are in many ways superior to bikes.
* They are faster.
* They are stronger, letting you tranport stuff.
* They can be used by people who can not bike, such as the elderly or the mildly disabled.
* They use just as little oil as bikes do, except if your grid is powered by stupid oil power plants.
Whoa, don'tcha think you're going a bit overboard here?
*The sport offers ~5hp peak and weighs in at ~500lbs with rider. A road bike has ~.7hp peak and weighs in at ~200lbs with rider. The sport is roughly twice as powerful. However, due to it's gearing, it's not faster than a road bike going downhill, and is probably about the same speed on the flats. So, what you have is something that's faster uphill, slower dowhill, and about the same on flats. If they are faster it's not by much.
*The payload capacity of these things is only 330lbs (including rider). The payload capacity of an extracycle is ~500lbs (including rider).

*Transport for the elderly or disabled is something these could excel at, I agree completely.
*While not using as much oil, they still need electricity from someplace, which is probably either coal or NG based. Unless you're in France.
Anyhoo... while they might have slight advantages over bicycles in speed, their range and payload capacity is limited, and at $3k, they're really expensive! Their best feature is that they're easy to use. So if you're unable to ride due to some physical problems, or just plain lazy, then it's good for you.
If you want something reliable, cheaper, tougher, and don't mind a workout, or a small decrease in speed, then a bicycle is still a better option.
