I'd jump off a cliff first, but I won't have too because it isn't going to happen.
We are running out of oil slowly, not out of everything all at once. It is going to be impossible to operate a society based on eponential growth without cheap oil but that doesn't mean its impossible to do anything at all.
People will still get up in the morning, brush their teeth, put on their trousers one leg at a time and go to work.
There will be many changes, some of them unpleasant, but if we are clever and wise and even moderately lucky there won't be mass starvation.
IMHO on this website we should be generating policy to help with the transition like adults, not telling each other scary stories around the campfire like children.
