There are ways you can be quite forthcoming about things that are meaningful, without having to compromise the kinds of details that can lead to getting your identity stolen or whatnot. First names, generalizations about your field of work, and generalizations about the part of the country you live in, are probably safe. Physical addresses (and things that are linked to them) are not safe: you don't want visitors who haven't asked permission first.

hello i,m kelee..that is my middle name Lee..I have a very uncommon first name so I cannot put it up..I am 42 years old and I am a single mom of 4 kids..20 is my oldest and he has gone back down south..and from most of my post you should know I live in Northern Ontario..
My other children are 14 boy 8 boy and 7 girl..
I am a big prepper, not only for peak oil..but for all that is going bad in this world..God,s will be done...

I've been interested in peak oil since mid '99. It was during the Y2K "crisis" that I remember thinking what would most likely be the next world crisis. So I typed in the words "world oil reserves" and I think I stumbled onto Hubbertpeak.com and the rest is history.

At first I bought the whole hydrogen economy nonsense but now that I understand terms like EROEI I know better. It's been interesting to watch the whole crisis unfold over the past 5 years as predicted. I've only really shared peak oil with one other person because firstly you have to do alot of research to fully grasp the whole concept and secondly I don't want to depress people. Most people just don't want to know. I'll let the media do it. I'm noticing more and more articles in the mainstream media now dealing with this issue. I think next year is going to be significant. My prediction? Oil prices will hit $100 a barrel.

I'm a 24 year old graduate student from the northeast but living in San Diego, CA. I'm studying the neuroscience of autism. Hope to leave and head for the NE or NW after grad school.

I've been working on the drug war since my (now long gone and perceived as quite juvenile) college neo-hippy days, which led to a focus on the Iraq war and eventually the 2004 campaign. I've been moving over to more global, environmental issues since then, hoping to identify good opportunities to "win hearts and minds."

I saw Kunstler's article in rolling stone, and spent a month or two doing my own research to reach almost exactly the same conclusions as the US gov'ts Hirsch report. At this point I expect peak oil to cause the worst recession in half a century but stop short of the real doomers who are most prevalent on this board. I'm probably going to move along soon to more environmental sites, and personally just try to use as little fossil fuel as possible, but I've enjoyed the debate.

Hi, I'm Sean, I'm 19 and a Student at the University of Bath, UK. I have just finished my first year of a Civil Engineering degree. I'm hoping I can become specialised in Environmental/energy side of engineering when I get the chance.

When not at University I live in Swansea in Wales, not really doing much except occasionally working in some part time job and trying my best to enjoy the last few years of cheap energy as a youngster, you know socialising, partying whatever .

I consider myself extremely lucky to have spent my youth in a time that will most likely be considered as the end of the golden age 20 years in the future, I do feel terrible for the kids that are very young now, what kind of future can they hope for??

I've known about Peak Oil since about Easter 05, and as far as I know I'm the only young person in the area who actively keeps an eye on this developing problem, certainly among my friends at least.

I've tried telling friends about it, most of them don't get it, expecting technology to save us all without problems. I think the couple of them that do understand the problem wish I hadn't told them lol.

By the way it's great to have a forum like this where all aspects of peak oil can be discussed so openly. Its always my first stop these days when I want to keep up with the latest news, and it has definitely taught me so much about the world and how it works. Its terrible that you don't learn about anything like this in school eh?? Maybe we wouldn't get ourselves into such a mess if the kids were taught about the role of energy in our society.

Anyway, sorry I'm rambling. So, yeah hello then .

Looks like a ton of material to read through. I know from my own forum that there is generally debate on most environmental issues regarding both whether something is happening or not, and over the severity of potential events. Climate change is a good example.

Is there a consensus in the peak oil community that a) oil is certainly running out, and b) a reasonably accurate timescale for when this will occur?
