4) Illegal immigration: we are the ones who have been begging for border protection since 9/11. the right wing has the senate, the house, and the oval office, and they are NOT getting it done! for chrissakes, bush wants to give illegals working permits. $#@! permits, i say give them their walking papers. we can't take the chance that one of these illegals is just waiting for the right moment to attack our interests at home.
Funny, most liberal parties support it.
Who do you think sets up watering stations in the desert? Sure as hell aint conservatives!
Who do you think opposes the MinuteMen? Sure as hell aint the conservatives!
Who do you think pushed the PC correct way of labelling them, not as "illegals" but as "undocumented workers"? Sure as hell wasnt conservatives!!
Spec,
I appreciate your postings and agree with you in many ways, particularly about gun control and firearm ownership!
However, in my experience, it is the conservative, Bush voting people who profit from illegal immigration. Who is hiring these illegals on construction crews? Average middle class workers? No, it is mostly wealthy people who own large companies. Successful by the American definition.
There is a whole lot of new construction going on at the university where I work. Interstingly, many of the laborers don't speak English and are obviously illegal.
Growing up with my father being a Border Patrol agent, I learned how to spot them and differentiate them from legal immigrants. I see them all over south Louisiana now, a Red state by the way.
My feeling is that anyone who employs an illegal knowingly should be prosecuted to the limit of the law. Of course, that would mean a lot of Gawd fearing Amercuns would become wards of the state. That wouldn't be good.
I'm really a conservative, in the old sense of the word, not the new one. The new paradigm seems to be anyone that disagrees with the W whitehouse is classified as a liberal regardless of their true political stance. I see it on other message boards, and I hear it when I listen to the masters of hate, Rush Limbagh, Sean Hannity, et al.
Current political discussions are always framed by these cats as people who don't agree with the bobblehead-in-chief are liberals regardless of how they feel about core conservative issues, and its bullshit.
The Democrats, and their love affair with any and all fringe groups such as gay rights, PETA, etc have driven true moderates away. The Repubs are accomplishing much the same (I hope) by their embracing of the neo-cons and their whacked-out foreign policy, total "security" and illegal wars.
The only hope I hold out for this republic is that the media will be exposed for their complicity in the events of the last four years, and that this will bring about a legitimate third party that represents true conservative values such as living within ones means, for example. The current admin is not conservative by my definition. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that politically, we're forced to choose between two extremist parties with nothing much left in the middle , in part thanks to the bought and paid for media in this country.
I agree with Sheehan, and Bush dodging her only confirms my belief that he's borderline insane and refuses to hear anything negative regarding his policies and decisions. A responsible leader could admit a mistake and begin to correct it rather than keep spouting the same slogans and platitudes regarding the war when, to anyone who's paying attention, they don't hold water.
Cheers.
