You are messing up causes.. the study says nothing about what is causing what..

People who are more intelligent/richer could simply drink more, only because of their social standings. Alcohol could be actually degrading their skills..

Licho, could be right:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Finding may explain link between alcohol and certain cancers

Drinking alcoholic beverages has been linked to an increased risk of upper gastrointestinal cancer and other types of cancer. Researchers looking for the potential biochemical basis for this link have focused on acetaldehyde, a suspected carcinogen formed as the body metabolizes alcohol

A similar study found that people who drank 1-2 drinks/day had a higher life expectancy than people who engaged in both higher and lower or no consumption. A followup study corrected the low/nil alcohol group, by taking out the reformed alcoholics and abstainers for health reasons (usually liver damage from hepatitis/drugs) and found the life expectancy for the low/nil group was actually slightly better than the moderate group.

I wonder if in this study they neglected to take into consideration the reformed alcoholics and the people who don't drink for health reasons.
Kind regards, Katkinkate
