$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', 'F')or about 300 or 400 bucks you can go to a wholesale distributor and buy enough rice to last you half a lifetime.
While that may seem expensive, compared to the tool/land/time investment you'd make to grow rice I think you'd come out ahead.
No disagreement there. In fact, I have quite a lot of rice stocked up.
However, something like 20 years of rice would be a hell of a lot of rice. And, even in the best circumstances, you could lose all of it to a moisture problem or bugs or a house that burns down or (insert random disaster here). I've been trying to learn how to grow and propagate all the plants I consider essential. That way, I always have the ability to grow something if I want to. I don't want to grow an acre of rice, but I wouldn't mind growing a 10'x'10' patch for practice and to get new seed every year.
Actually, I guess you're right on the amounts. If you ate a dry cup of rice every day, that comes out to about 22 gallons of dry rice. So, say it comes out to 5, 5 gallon buckets per year. That is not a lot of space. If I live to be 90, I'll only need 295 buckets of rice.
Still, I feel better when I know how to produce it if I need to.
