PeakOil is You

PeakOil is You

Do the American people know what they're missing?

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pilferage', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', 'F')act is, Socialism is for the lazy. I couldnt, in good faith, support a system that supports laziness and half assed work ethics.

Uh, your American right? Cuz if you are I hate to burst your bubble but...
You already do!
Welfare, bailouts, our 'oh so lovely' interpertations of the 14th amendment as applying to corporations, the recent decision regarding property rights, etc...
the problem with America is that big business takes advantage of the socialistic side of our government much more than the people do. In other countries it's at least balanced... but not here.
We luv our Big Business'! :-D

Negative Ghostrider, that pattern is full.
*I* do NOT suppoer those bailouts! You can thank the Dumocrats for bailing our the lazy asses of this country with welfare, and you can thank the Repooplicans for bailing out business's.

What are the actual figures for the amount of people receiving welfare? What about the absolute dollar figures for business subsidies and welfare payouts? Would the system have continued to function well without these things? How about children benefitting from welfare? Can a baby be lazy?

If you work, pay taxes, and buy shit then yes, you do support this system we have. The only way for you (or anyone) not to support it is to be completely independent. i.e. "I live in my little earthship and grow my own food, I have enough spare parts for seven generations and a technical library to match..." etc...

Until then we are all part of the problem.

Actual welfare for "lazy people" - aid to dependent children, food stamps, etc, is 1% of the federal budget, 2% of state budgets. This doesn't include social security, medicare, veterans benefits. If you need a link I'll find one for you.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dissimulo', 'e')ven a fast food worker out of a desire to "be the best"

Without incentive (such as deperation for income) I'm not sure these jobs would get done.

Which is why I specifically mentioned earning a decent income, in addition to being "the best." If I didn't make a decent income, I wouldn't do the work, it's not that fun anymore. My point was that it doesn't require (for me) earning more than someone else as an incentive. Frankly I would be quite happy to learn that people who dig ditches, flip burgers, or clean toilets earn as much or more than I do, they work much harder than I do. Just because I have specialised skills and a higher education (which btw, didn't aid me in my field) doesn't mean I "deserve" a higher income.
