Manifest destiny has never died. There is a small percentage of the US population that are the 21st century "savages" taking the place of the American Indian (although living up to the great ones is almost impossible). I am in this group. There is a vision of a better freer, healthier sustainable way. Manifest destiny is pushing. The only way to survive eventually will be defensive violence. Spend some time out of the dead zone. go to the Oregon Country fair. Observe the path of death from the outside. Its sobering. And as A-Ron said its all about $ and capitalism. Many here have entirely too much faith in the govt and the military. A study was done on the Marines a few years back that showed a significant percentage would have no trouble turning their guns on US citizens if so ordered..
This is pretty damning, you have to admit, specop. The tanks are coming to assist? flash to Waco. Brilliant kochevnik. A sociological study of the loyalties of American troops would be interesting to read if you can remember what that study was. Another important question though is what the officers think, mid-level and at the top.

Worse then that. Governent troops have body armor, AFV's, Helicopters, and most importantly, heavy artillery. Any revoloution in the US is hopelessly overmatched at this point.

I agree. I didn't take into account body armor, artillery support, and air support. About the only way it could be done is using geurilla warfare.

Hey K_S, Mac is in Australia. He knows as much about America and its politics as Japan knows about growing wheat. I dont know why you waste your time agruing with someone living under a socialist regime with no rights whos directly descended from theives, pedophiles and murderers. Its of no use, he'll only continue to flame. He really should be banned, as he contributes NOTHING.

Moving on though. The military would be divided. If it comes to revolution i fully expect to see tank on tank and plane on plane battles. There are those in the military who know the oaths they took, and would not turn those guns on civilians in the event it was ordered by a oppresive government.

It would be ugly. But the point is, if we have guns we have an option. We can fight. If we dont? Well, the Jews faired pretty well when Hitler took away all their guns....right??.........

I dont know, maybe far enough into an energy depleted society the military would simply cease to be an effective controlling force, or perhaps it would be too streched out to pacify any area. But divided? Only if officers in the upper military decided to go against the system that has benifieted them so greatly. The US military I know probobly wouldnt be divided unless the rebellion was long, drawn out, and mostly successful.

We would need a tough leader and plenty of cannon fodder, and if it survived the first few months, maybe it could eventually succeed in stretching the army out too much between the home front and overseas. An empire is only as strong as the faith its citizens put in its ability to put them down.

Wow! The flames in here are so hot that I did'nt even have to light the grill tonight. I just slapped the steak on the monitor for a couple minutes..

Really, I have one small thing to say. The same people that tell you that declawing your cat is inhumane because it leaves the cat defenseless are the same that want to take our guns IMHO. What does that make you? Less than an animal IMHO. I have some cats and I would never declaw them even though they use their "guns" from time to time to let me know where the limits are. I try not to challenge them because it hurts... think about that.

Yes, and covert operations is the way to minimize risk upon the attackers, and also maximise your effectiveness. Just think about it. What is easier to strike, a refueling station, or some random rail line out in the middle of BFE by use of a couple M1000's and a cutting torch? Personally, I would prefer to go after the rail line installations, or roadway bridges. They are almost ungaurded, and you would have up to 24 hours to set up the operation. The national infastructure is actually very insecure. I really don't feel comfortable giveing any more details than this. I am already bordering on sedition.

The socialism practiced in the US armed forces is especially deplorable, what with jobs for life, free medical and dental care, not to mention a free tertiary education.

Of course , I am of the opnion that the 2nd won't be repealed but actually leveraged by a right-leaning gov't to "support" like-minded gun owners ( any one have numbers on gun owner demographics in terms of political sympathies ) organizing themselves into paramilitary units that carry out extra-judicial activities in the name of "law and order". No need to field a large domestic army when you have "neighbors" policing the area.

:twisted: One only needs to look to our South American friends to see how gov't policy can be support by these type of players...

Possibly, but even then anyone owning a gun not involved with the paramilitary forces will likley be harrassed, effectivly eliminating the 2nd amendment for all non government sympathizers.

Wrong, any government should be wary against allowing paramilitary forces complete control. They tend to commit serious crimes simply out of boredom, and enough atrocities will cause revolts anywhere, and gun toting citizens can deal with light infantry.
