The net result is that marijuana smokers have a greatly increased risk of strokes and mini-strokes occurring at a young age, and have an overall increase of risk for strokes and related brain-related medical issues like mini-strokes and vascular dementia..

Ischemic stroke is caused by a blockage that interrupts or reduces blood flow to the brain as opposed to haemorrhagic stroke, which occurs when a blood vessel in the brain leaks or ruptures.....
In the cannabis smokers, the ischemic stroke was more likely to be caused by intracranial arterial stenosis, a condition where there is narrowing the arteries inside the skull caused by a build-up of plaque.
Intracranial arterial stenosis was found in 45 per cent of the marijuana users in the study compared to 14 per cent of the non-users.

At the moment in Oz we have a massive drug driving scam being foistered on the community, people with perfect 40 year driving records losing licenses for months or years for 'testing positive to recent cannabis use', totally arbitrary random saliva testing often busting people for a toke days ago, no impairment test required for prosecution. The science is total garbage & we have police arguing the case in moron terms for the populace- 18% of drivers involves in crashes tested positive to illegal drugs for example. Of course there is no blind test, because the state can't randomly test people at home in bed etc. But enough idiots who smoked once & didn't like it, or had a friend who became a bong ficked lounge lizard, in a democracy, bad science is good enough for an ignorant populace.

Bollocks, without long term & broad scale & comparative research the conclusion is not a conclusion. I can link you to studies far larger that suggest cannabis can cure or alleviate a massive range of serious medical conditions. Alcohol does far more damage than all other drugs put together but ubiquitous to all but the strictest religious countries, on tap. The finding by the German doctors that marijuana use causes a build up of plaque in blood vessels in the brain is absolutely startling. Plaque buildup in the brain is thought to be one of the causes of alzheimer's disease. As boomers age, Alzheimers is going to grow in importance for this population. The possible correlation with marijuana use is very troublesome.

Prior to this study marijuana has been suggested as a possible inhibitor to plaque buildup (although double-blind tests failed to confirm it). The possibility that marijuana is CAUSING plaque build up deserves more study.
