Yes Timo, where you were done by the age of 30, I think. Of course we know what the "done" is.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Timo', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ibon', 'W')ith low enough population numbers we do not need to sacrifice pleasures and comforts and conveniences. Self regulation really doesn't mean sacrificing comforts, conveniences and pleasures. It is the opposite. By not self regulating we are sacrificing comforts, conveniences and pleasures.

RUN, Logan!!! RUN!!!! :|

There is this real possibility that I don't want to entertain because it would take us down the conspiracy track which only opens up wacky speculations. That said, we do have to touch on this because it is a plausible possibility.

Before natural consequences become our teachers the powers to be will want to attempt control in order to regulate diminishing resources. This will be justified by security and the need to maintain stability. Self regulation by state apparatus whereby limits to freedom will be set.

If we look back at the last 10-15 years we can see where more and more regulation is required by government to manage the complexity of our society. Take what we have seen the past 10 or 20 years and apply resource constraints to this complexity with the necessity to manage 7 billion on the planet.

How far will the state go in attempting an authoritative self regulation?

And how will citizens respond. Comparing sub cultures raised on the ethos of liberty and personal freedoms to some of the more collective societies and cultures like in China or Asia.

What societies will be best adapted to conforming to nature and state imposed self regulation?

I think we totally underestimate the upcoming forces that will compel governments to increase regulation to manage the BIG SQUEEZE.

Our best method at numerical self-regulation that we've figured out so far seems to be plain old simple war. No need at introverted self-regulation. Let's kill those people! Free land to expand our industry! Free resources to exploit. Free room to grow!

When the time comes around again, we'll find some new other people to kill. Rinse and repeat. FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!

How long until the next round?

ummm, I guess that the US population would not be good at conforming to either Government control or to a power-down, voluntary less consumption lifestyle. In terms of what is better to be under control by the authorities for the sake of maintaining public order or to let people improvise and have government recede in power, I would say the former. Somehow I do not think here in the US we would be good at any kind of self-regulation. After all are we not recognized globally as the spoiled country which undoubtedly we are. Somehow a country whose citizens are in great numbers into watching zombies, sporting events, into facebook and into addictions like gambling, sex, alcohol and drugs as well as being a country of people who do not like to be told what to do by anyone, the ideal candidates for self-control and self-regulation.
