The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

I love The Onion. My favourite "headline" has to be: "Stalin announces new 5 Year 'Everybody Dies' Plan".

I dunno, I really liked their section on Oil today...

Deleted broken image. ...I think the last item on the list hints at the true reality of our situation.

Particularly the last item. Somebody wanted a short summary of the effects of peak oil today. I think that's it. 8)

Hello, my name is Rax. I live in the Amazon jungle with a bunch of women. We are super eco feminists and our favourite passtimes are dangling men by their ankles and discussing peak oil. - apparently

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')inally, the girls joined hands on the factory floor and began to chant, 'No more insane flying toys for Western pigs!' They quickly lost their jobs and were ostracized by their families, but the incident was a testament to China's growing disillusionment with producing needless crap for fat-ass foreigners."

Gary Jennings has written many fascinating historical novels. One was about a westerner traveling to China a thousand years ago. The descriptions of ancient Chinese torture practices was astonishing. The Imperial Practitioner of Torture was a Chinese Woman whose cruel imagination would curdle anyone's blood.

Of course, China has been an Empire, and Empires need good torture skills.

I'm continually amazed that The Onion is considered real news in the US.

Most of that kind of thing was originated by Ron Popiel (hope I spelled it right) his company was called Ronco. Several of his inventions have gotten design awards and are in museums. And that stuff was originally made here, we weren't importing stuff from China in the 1950s and 1960s or even the 1970s.

Some of that "hokey" stuff is pretty useful, too!

The Onion 2056 issue

Postby bobdrake » Wed 22 Jun 2005, 15:15:18

The Onion put out a 2056 issue. http://www.theonion.com/2056-06-22/index_b.php

There is an article about "SOLOPEC Nations Warn Sun's Ouput May Fall Short of Demand" echoing the current oil situation.

OLDUVAI GORGE, FORMER TANZANIA—The UN announced Monday that it has begun the directed repopulation of Africa, the continent that has lain desolate since the 2042 Saharan Scourge. "The time has come to reclaim this land from the effects of war, famine, disease, and devastating commercial exploitation," ReAfrica project head Marcus Mtume said, motioning toward the bare rock of the Serengeti shield plain. "At this very moment, scouts are determining the viability of a New Lagos settlement." Critics argue that the ReAfrica project is beyond the scope of current terra-reforming technology, and the UN resources required would be better spent on more fertile territory, such as the Marianas Trench or Charon, Pluto's only moon.

I think it would be cool to have a car running on whateverthanol. Imagine pissing in your gas tank and running your car off it. :-D
