There are good plans and bad plans.

Yes, Stalin had a plan but his plan produced tens of millions of deaths and brought widespread misery to his people. By most measures Stalins plans were bad plans. Stalin was a paranoid mass murderer, and his plans reflected that. :roll:

I was simply pointing out that in the examples of authoritarianism given by Subjectivist they all had a plan. The objectives and plans were generally something that large proportions of the populace got behind, and people were willing to invest time and energy in the present for foreseen future benefit. I believe the sacrifice of democracy and the authoritarianism in the USSR under Stalin was wrong but you cannot deny that the changes brought about were enormous.

Yes, the show trials, ethnic cleansing and persecution, national paranoia, and murder of millions of people in the USSR gulags certainly was an enormous change. :idea:
