All the snow here just got washed away, temps went from lows of 8 -highs of 30 to lows of 40 highs of 65 in a few days. Should be back down in the sub freeze temps tomorrow. Lately temps seem to depend on that weakened jet stream. Spiders and moths came back out again, going to be a shocker for them.

Went to the butcher to get some chicken backs for the dog and some meat for us, no chicken backs, no sausage -- peak meat?? Should be able to get it tomorrow though, maybe. Did get some bacon for XMAS breakfast.

Happy Holidays everyone.

I'm on my annual winter trip escaping the cold Alaskan winter for a few weeks.I just spent two weeks in east Africa and now I'm in Copenhagen Denmark for the holidays.

It's grey windy and in the 40s here. All the museums are closed for the holidays but Copenhagen is a great city to walk around in--- they've got a sea bus that runs back and forth on the main channel of the bay through town like the vaporettos in Venice so I'm riding the sea bus to see the sights and doing long walks Saw the little mermaid statue yesterday and visited Christiana the famous 60s hippie squatter town yesterday

Happy holidays to all

Rocky,

I don't have a lot of travel urges/dreams...but I would love to one day snoop around the Appalachians, listen to some great bluegrass, see and ride on some old steam trains, and wander down to southern Miss and LA. Then, magically tele-transport home. Hearing about where you guys are gets me thinking about it.

Talk about being an outsider somewhere. I live in a place now where if you wern't born here, you could live here for 30 years and you would still be a foreigner. You are accepted, but.... you just aren't from here. I can only imagine what it must be like being somewhere that has more settled history and long time families. Our place only goes back 100 years of logging, and the natives moved away during the Spanish Flu epidemic. Our roots are not so deep here and Christmas traditions are not really shared. Although, one local clan rents the community hall and puts on their own Christmas dinner inviting all those who are on their own to attend.

The big question....will I, (and you guys) check your PO sites on Christmas day? I hate to admit it, but.....

Merry Christmas to all!

I'm just back from my "Santa" duties. Tomorrow, as a homage to the PO site, we're going to be watching the movie "Elf". POers will remember that that's the film in which Santa's sleigh comes down in Central Park due to a lack of fuel caused by "Peak Christmas Cheer".

Greetings, everyone!

We are finally enjoying some mild weather after quite a cold December. Spent a lovely evening with my two best friends on Monday - a tradition we've held for some 20 years now - shared dinner and a movie, and wine, exchanged gifts and laughed long into the night. Last night I made a couple of different stews and had my in-laws over. In the morning, hubby and I and the "kids" are going for a long walk, then back home for brunch and another tradition, the Christmas trifle.

It's been a challenging year, but I feel good.

Cheers!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ROCKMAN', 'S')ub - good idea: holiday favorites. Being from Nawlins artechoke crab chowder is a biggie for New Years. And for some us older farts blood sausage and cabbage.

You wouldn't happen to have a recipe? We make a warm artichoke and crab dip. In the winter, we substitute Jerusalem Artichoke tubers for artichokes.

As a mater of fact, we are bringing it to the family Christmas diner.

The title of this post reminds me of this video:

With nearly 30 million views, this short film reminded me on Christmas morning of when my kids were young and life seemed fun! (Now their moody teenagers and it will be 5-7 years before I have grandkids)

Merry Christmas all!

Care - This one is a typical Nawlins style: http://www.cooks.com/recipe/8z01o0c1/cr ... -soup.html. Except I don't like Tabasco...Crystal Hot sauce is my fire of choice.

Newbie - Definitely an old timer's taste treat. When I described blood sausage to my daughter not only did she say she would pass but also told me I was not allowed to eat it in her presence. LOL.

John - Happy Holiday from Texas this time. Made it back at midnight...had to race Santa all the way on my 300 mile commute home. And to complete the tale: the well swabbed in quicker than I expected and I was able to bug out sooner. And made my owner happy for Christmas: this little sidetrack cost $1.8 million and will net him about $10 million.

Joy to the world...joy to year end bonuses. LOL.

You betcha! Glad you got home in time....I would still try and find a way to train up some newbies so you don't have to do it in the first place, but to each man their business model, and to each business model a good night! Merry Christmas!

I had one uncle (on of my mothers brother in law) who emigrated from Poland and liked ducks blood soup (tchinka). I was always too chicken to eat it but I did have fried pigs blood groing up, tastes just like beef liver.

Merry Christmas to all!
