$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('oiless', ' ')When gasoline gets expensive people are going to steal it. When people steal it others are going to try and thwart them.
Most cars are very difficult or impossible to siphon from. The common mode will be to punch a hole in the gas tank with a screwdriver and slide a pan under there.
The whole thing is a sad statement on the human condition. People are raised by the boob tube, brought up on the mental equivalent of junk food, they suffer a lack of empathy, a lack of morals, and they've been instilled with the idea that everything should be theirs now, and that without things they are not worth while as human beings. When material things define your personhood, whatever means are needed to obtain material things are justified.
We have a society of people that will do anything to get what they want, and they've been conditioned to want anything that anyone else has.
Of course things are going to get stolen. When people measure themselves by their possessions they are going to defend them as if they were defending their lives, so people stealing things are going to run into trouble.
It's a bloody pathetic way to live.
A while back an amateur fuel thief blew himself up, he was using a better powered drill to punch holes in fuel tanks and a spark from the motor ignited the gasoline. It was on the news but I didn't keep a link.
