I don't know if it's right or wrong, but I do know you all are a bunch of moralists on both sides.

At any rate, it is a great story, and I'm glad it is on your consience not mine.

Linseed oil is the key.

There ya go folks ... now you really know how to get even.

You misunderstand my sense of humour Raphael. I am a Canadian, I feel if a bunch of paranoid americans seed each others tanks with an engine siezing substance the world will be a better place.

Not your fault Raphael. Dead-pan humour doesn't carry well over the internet. In fact it doesn't carry well in real life, except among people who know me.

I find the whole story at the start of this thread moot. When gasoline gets expensive people are going to steal it. When people steal it others are going to try and thwart them.
Most cars are very difficult or impossible to siphon from. The common mode will be to punch a hole in the gas tank with a screwdriver and slide a pan under there.

The whole thing is a sad statement on the human condition. People are raised by the boob tube, brought up on the mental equivalent of junk food, they suffer a lack of empathy, a lack of morals, and they've been instilled with the idea that everything should be theirs now, and that without things they are not worth while as human beings. When material things define your personhood, whatever means are needed to obtain material things are justified.
We have a society of people that will do anything to get what they want, and they've been conditioned to want anything that anyone else has.
Of course things are going to get stolen. When people measure themselves by their possessions they are going to defend them as if they were defending their lives, so people stealing things are going to run into trouble.
It's a bloody pathetic way to live.

A while back an amateur fuel thief blew himself up, he was using a better powered drill to punch holes in fuel tanks and a spark from the motor ignited the gasoline. It was on the news but I didn't keep a link.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Gas blows up.

Diesel you can do it pretty safely. I drilled a hole in my diesel tank last year, after much thought and talking to a few other old codgers who have done it many times.

The topic was debated on a thread with many interesting comments.

I always figured I'd use a hefty punch and a hammer to poke holes in the fuel tanks of abandoned cars post-zombieapocalypse. Haven't had to try it. Yet.

I did drain my motorcycle tank into my truck today. Thought some water may have gotten in there, explaining why I couldn't start it (I think the petcock was just clogged a bit, though). Pretty easy, just required a screwdriver to remove the tank and a funnel to get the gas into my truck.
A garden will make your rations go further.
