I said "Other" because I get most of my news from Google News. Usually, I read the same articles in the local paper the next day.

Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

I chose the daily paper because I do read it every morning, but I also like to listen to NPR and I get my most informative info from the web. The other night however, I had a rare moment to turn on the TV to something besides SpongeBob and I thought I would watch the news. All 5 of the cable news channels CNN, CNN2, MSNBC, FOX and whatever the 5th one is were all talking about Michael Jackson, every single station. I probably shouldn't have been shocked but I was, and totally disgusted too. For goodness sakes, we have two wars going on, are economy is on shaky ground, global warming and oil depletion are upon us and on an on, and all we can focus on is some weirdo old pop star. These are crazy days.

Also, thanks to those who listed the great news/blog sites in this thread.

Two radio programs that might be interesting:

"Democracy Now" with Amy Goodman http://www.democracynow.org/
Plays on Pacifica Radio stations, college radio stations and small community stations. Amy is probably the best broadcast journalist iin the USA today. Although her show is definitely to the left, she has interviewed a wide variety of figures - ex-CIA agents, Clinton, (he got offended by her questions), etc. For more background see Amy's Empire

"Le Show" with Harry Shearer http://www.harryshearer.com/active/leShow.php
I've only listened to this once, but it's had great recommendations from friends. A lighter, funnier touch than Amy Goodman. I think he's on public radio at odd hours. The June 5 show highlighted:
News from outside the bubble--the wet Korans
Apologies of the week: a sorry Virgin
Nixon in Heaven--Deep Throat is Felt
LA Dog Trainer Corrections For You

Does anyone else listen to these shows? Comments?

I've given up on public radio and television. They've lost their nerve and have become Muzak for the intellect. My wife listens to the BBC and Deutsche Welle (German news) -- not much better I'm afraid.

The most interesting radio stations to me are the Pacifica stations (KPFA in Berkeley and others in Texas, Washington, LA and NY), as well as the local community stations. You never know what you're going to get on those stations -- Irish music, a show by Caroline Casey the activist astrologer (very funny & insightful; I love her though I have zero interest in astrology), a talk on the political history of Turkey, Hip-hop nation, bluegrass music, book reviews, etc.

I notice Caroline Casey ("the Visionary Activist") has a webite at http://www.spiritualintrigue.com/ . Coming events include BIG MAMA'S CHURCH OF CHRIST THE GIRLIE-MAN.

I gave up on watching TV or reading newspapers for news....for good. I have always been skeptical of the news media's "credibility". However it was the US media's "reporting" of the Iraq war that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

If I spend the rest of my life never again to sit thru 1 full TV news show or newspaper honestly I don't think I will be missing out on much. :-D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe there are quite a few people out there who frankly don't care for the truth. They only hear what they want to hear. This can easily be done by finding some media outlet that shares the same political views as you (whatever that may be). A person can latch onto it and never have to hear anything that goes against their views (whatever that may be). For many this can be a very comforting experience.

However truth does not necessarily == comfort.

It all depends what you want to take: :-D
