Two radio programs that might be interesting:
"Democracy Now" with Amy Goodman
http://www.democracynow.org/
Plays on Pacifica Radio stations, college radio stations and small community stations. Amy is probably the best broadcast journalist iin the USA today. Although her show is definitely to the left, she has interviewed a wide variety of figures - ex-CIA agents, Clinton, (he got offended by her questions), etc. For more background see
Amy's Empire
"Le Show" with Harry Shearer
http://www.harryshearer.com/active/leShow.php
I've only listened to this once, but it's had great recommendations from friends. A lighter, funnier touch than Amy Goodman. I think he's on public radio at odd hours. The June 5 show highlighted:
News from outside the bubble--the wet Korans
Apologies of the week: a sorry Virgin
Nixon in Heaven--Deep Throat is Felt
LA Dog Trainer Corrections For You
Does anyone else listen to these shows? Comments?
I've given up on public radio and television. They've lost their nerve and have become Muzak for the intellect. My wife listens to the BBC and Deutsche Welle (German news) -- not much better I'm afraid.
The most interesting radio stations to me are the Pacifica stations (KPFA in Berkeley and others in Texas, Washington, LA and NY), as well as the local community stations. You never know what you're going to get on those stations -- Irish music, a show by Caroline Casey the activist astrologer (very funny & insightful; I love her though I have zero interest in astrology), a talk on the political history of Turkey, Hip-hop nation, bluegrass music, book reviews, etc.
I notice Caroline Casey ("the Visionary Activist") has a webite at
http://www.spiritualintrigue.com/ . Coming events include BIG MAMA'S CHURCH OF CHRIST THE GIRLIE-MAN.
