Bob Woodward, of Watergate fame, says Obama is lying about the sequester

Obama is lying about the sequester

Woodward's new book, the PRICE OF POLITICS, details how Obama created the sequester. Woodward shows that, in spite of his lies, Obama is indeed responsible for this mess.

Unimaginable given current circumstances, esp. with increasing debt needed to fuel spending across the board.

A second sequester of 11 billion bucks is set to automatically occur after the first sequester of 44 billion bucks that goes into effect on march 1st.

US economy will be hurt by sequester---and then hurt more by a second sequester

I don't which is worse----the sequesters that Obama signed into law or Obama's hysterical squealing about the sequesters he signed into law.

Joe Biden gave a speech today saying Americans aren't worried about the economy anymore because its doing so well.

I guess Biden has tuned out Obama's hysterical speeches telling everyone how his sequester law is going to destroy the economy starting on friday.

I was just in a teleconference with some federal government administrators. They had cancelled their trip to our science meeting in Alaska at the last minute, blaming budget cuts from the sequester (which hasn't even started yet). In the teleconference they complained woefully about the evil sequester, but when it came time for them to present their plans for their 2013 budgets in their government programs, they were going ahead with hundreds of millions of dollars of new spending for facilities, travel, new hires, etc.

The sequester is just a grand excuse for Obama to go on TV and complain about his own decision to furlough contract workers at the lower levels of federal employment, while continuing to give raises and not furlough all the administrators, the highly paid Obama staffers in the White House, and all the other top level political appointees.

If Obama is going to furlough the lower level contract workers, shouldn't he also lead by giving back some of his own pay? Shouldn't he also furlough his own staff? Shouldn't the high level appointees be furloughed right along with the low level workers?

It looks like the top 1% in the federal government aren't going to get furloughed....whats up with that?

Image
Obama is protecting the top 1% in the federal government from being furloughed...all the pain goes to the lower class federal contract workers.

Maybe BHO will only play 18 holes of golf with Tiger the next time, instead of three days worth.

Damn! Times are tough.

So, can you still imagine a President who won't increase debt for an economy that's dependent on debt?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ralfy', '.').. can you still imagine a President who won't increase debt for an economy that's dependent on debt?

I never said that.

Either you didn't understand what you read or you are intentionally misrepresenting the facts and trying to introduce a "red herring" into the discussion by misquoting what was said.

I suggest you use the "quote" function if you want to talk about something someone else has said----perhaps directly quoting folks will help you better follow what the discussion is about.. [smilie=5slick.gif]

Bob Woodward (of Watergate fame) says Obama is exhibiting a "kind of madness" in the way he is dealing with the sequester. Woodward says obama's decision to recall a carrier from the Middle East and blame it in the sequester is nutty, because the sequester clearly did not in any way require him to recall the carrier.

Obama has a "kind of madness" says Bob Woodward

I agree with Woodward that Obama is acting out and displaying signs of irrationality and "madness" in the way he is carrying on over the sequester. But I would go further, and suggest Obama's "madness" pops up in the way he deals with other things as well. For instance, Obama's bizarre claims that the economy is doing great when actually we are in the WORST RECOVERY EVER suggests the man isn't entirely tied in to reality.

First of all running the federal government is not anything like running a business. That's a myth. If that were true it would be hard to explain the success of Teddy Roosevelt, the writer, rancher and police commissioner, not to mention his distant cousin Franklin Roosevelt, the assistant naval secretary and politician, or Dwight Eisenhower, the career soldier.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

Okay. Reasonable. But Obama didn't have any experience running a government either, prior to being put in charge of both the largest private economy on the planet and the federal government. He has no real experience on...well...anything...well...mooching off of his wife's experience in the legal world might count...?

Certainly now that we are in THE WORST RECOVERY EVER we understand why you shouldn't hire neophytes to run anything.

Sounds like those people had careers, professional experience, something other than mooching off a wife's career.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')epublicans have been making the slightly incoherent argument that a) the sequester, which is a bad thing, is entirely Obama’s fault, b) Obama is exaggerating how bad the sequester will be, and c) the sequester, which is Obama’s fault, is preferable to not having the sequester.

a) Entirely his fault, no, but he DID sign off on it;
b) Exaggerating the effects, YES. ALL of us whom pay taxes have received a 2% across-the-board reduction in take-home-pay, and, as far as I can tell. nobody has died; and now with a 3% reduction for the Goberment, planes will not fly, borders will not be protected, and aircraft carriers cannot be deployed. PLAAASSSSEEEEEE!
c) Yes, the sequester will be better because, at some time (and the sooner the better), you have to stop the bleeding, IF you want the patient to live.

Obama administration threatens Bob Woodward

Bobwood Woodward was threatened by "a very senior Whitehouse official" for criticizing Obama

Looks like Woodward has been added to Obama's "enemies list."

I wonder who the "very senior White House Official" was who was so stupid as to threaten Bob Woodward? Often that phrase is used when the POTUS himself says something that is "off the record".

I didn't argue that you said such. Instead, I added the second part to what you wrote.

You wrote: "Try to imagine a president who doesn't create 5 TRILLION dollars of debt in four years."

You focused on the amount that was borrowed in four years. I am focusing on the 2008 crash that led to that, part of up to four decades of borrowing and spending. That's why I responded: "Unimaginable given current circumstances, esp. with increasing debt needed to fuel spending across the board." In short, it would not have mattered who was President, as the U.S. economy is primarily dependent on borrowing and spending. That's why I finally wrote: "So, can you still imagine a President who won't increase debt for an economy that's dependent on debt?"

With that, the "worst recovery" is expected, if not no recovery.

The final numbers are in----Q4 2012 GDP growth was upgraded from -.1% to .1%.

Wow. The economy is growing at a 0.1% GDP rate----that just makes it even clearer that we are in the WORST RECOVERY EVER

Without any experience running an economy or a government, it really isn't fair to expect that the President would know an important detail when it comes up. And of course his followers....
