I think the link wasn't obvious to all.

Would be fun to create our own chart and track our members.

Economic Left/Right: -4.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.18

Maybe this topic should be made a sticky. Then it would not be done again, and it would be easy to tell the political orientation of the board. Also, the results of this poll would explain why I am in disagreement with much of the board with political and war events.

This is the Political Map for PeakOil.com. I took the result from each of the threads and turned it into a chart. If you took the test twice, I used the more recent result. (It's amazing how much some people changed, but I'm still the most fiscally conservative member of the site

).

The X-axis is a meaure of economic issues, the higher the number, the more fiscally conservative. The Y-axis measures social issues, the higher the number, the more Authoritarian.

If you don't care Bob, vote for freedom. If the question is about abortion and you don't give a damn, vote for the option that allows others the maximum possible freedom (or at least that's my philosophy).

Governments are about restricting freedom for the sake of social peace. If it doesn't matter to you that water is bottled and sold, allow others to bottle and sell it. The alternative is a law which prohibits the sale of bottled water.

Judging by the results of our little survey, it looks like poor Ms. Rand would be rather lonely (not unlike her real life situation). But I have a feeling it wouldn't matter to her as long as she had her little space and room to grow. :lol:

I considered myself a libertarian or perhaps 19th century liberal with some leanings toward the green party in certain circumstances. Not too far off I say. Corporations can be just as fascist and oppressive as any government, and we are witnessing this today just as others have in the past. Peak oil is a major symptom of the problem. Just as much as I loathe the government, I also loathe the corporations that bought it out and pull the strings of their puppets in all three branches of government, jackass or fatass.

One more lower-lefty:

Details have varied over time, of course. And I think some of those questions are new or different from the last Political Compass quiz I took.

One problem I have with the questions is that they assume that authority comes from the central goverment. I wouldn't want a local authoritarian government meddling in my private life any more than I would want intervention from Washington. But I have to wonder if some of the people on this site (and I admit that I am a newbie) don't like Federal interference but think County interference is just fine.

And I would have been different on the Economic scale if I didn't have to favor government regulation over private economic action. I'd rather that the public and the employees settle economic matters with each other without orders from government agents or the bosses.

I also think my rating on the social questions is too high. Again, some of the dichotomies in those questions were false. For example, in the question about disciplined children, there was no middle ground between wild hellions and brutalized robots. So I considered my own answer of "taught self-discipline, tenacity, and respect for all", which seemed closer to "discipline" than whatever its opposites would be.

Maybe the compass needs to be fleshed out. One more-nuanced approach that I have been tinkering with is a political "compass" based on the Geek Code. Do you all think that might work better?

I can't manage to post the picture of my political position on the graph, but it is one spot down and one spot to the left of origo.

What is interesting is that the last time I took this test I was half way between origo and libertarian on the Y axis and bang on center on the X axis. It seems I have become a little more of a leftist and quite a lot more authoritarian in the last few years.

But if we take a look at this picture:

I have a feeling I should be a lot more to the right and a lot more authoritarian. Maybe all the anti-religion and pro-sex opinions made me look libertarian. I can't understand why I was put so far, relatively speaking, to the left though.
