Why can't I have both!
Yes we are, as we are,
And so shall we remain,
Until the end.

No worries.

In America today millions of Americans do have both!

Since the Obama administration loosened the food stamp eligibility rules in 2009, its easier than ever to have a low paying dead-end job AND food stamps too!

I don't have any problem with the food stamp program. It is helping people to eat. The system has taken away any hope of making our own food. In my state large corporations own most of the productive land, and it's the same in most of the country. It's just a way to distribute the food that comes off of the corporate owned land. I am concerned about when the food starts to run out. There are going to be a lot of hungry people around if they cut back. My wife runs a soup kitchen and they have been swamped lately. The government commodities program is starting to cut back. A lot of these people are working, but they can't make ends meet. I can see a time soon when they won't be able to feed everyone. When there are a lot of hungry people around it's a touchy situation. If you have ever lived in a third world country you will know what I mean. It could get ugly.

"It's outrageous," said Charles Leonard, a disabled 50-year-old who complained to 311 recently about a long wait and confusion at a center on Northern Boulevard in Queens. "It's like everybody is running around with their head cut off, and no one cares."

I don't want to hear any bitching about standing in line when you are eating on my dime. Just STFU and enjoy the free food courtesy of me.

Bet you dont say that to the oil companies who are given 600 mill a quarter by the .gov.

Oil companies produce something of value. What you call tax breaks are the normal depreciation, capital expenditures, and investments costs that all corporations are allowed to write off. Why would I want to punish oil companies any more so than any other corporation? Is their business inherently evil from your point of view?

your worries are misplaced for the foreseeable future. the more likely scenario is that you run out of money to afford food.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Long-term poor no longer make up bulk of those collecting food stamps on Treasure Coast
30K more Treasure Coast residents need assistance
Eric Pfahler / TCPalm / February 19, 2012

... As of November, a record 3 million Floridians, including more than 85,000 Treasure Coast residents, receive food stamps through the state-run, federally funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The numbers are about triple the number on food stamps five years ago, according to state data. About 15 percent of both Treasure Coast and Florida residents are on food stamps. ...

... The long-term poor no longer are making up most of the roll for those collecting food stamps, experts say. Rather, more former business owners, middle class families and others sapped by the downturn in the economy and housing market need help than before.

"What I find shocking (is) a lot of the people that we're serving now are people that were supporters of our programs and of the food bank and of our agencies, so we're serving people that in the past have been people that could afford to pay for themselves," Treasure Coast Food Bank Chief Executive Officer Judith Cruz said. ...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('eastbay', 'Y')up, de Molay, I've thought about this many times: Take away the welfare, food stamps, unemployment insurance, and all the other government give-aways and utter and complete societal disintegration and chaos will occur.

well said - its very scary whats going on - besides where do these people think this free money from the government is coming from?

what happens when no one is working and we are all on food stamps?

very scary
