Both parties pay lip service to physical responsibility when in fact both are physically irresponsible. Both use the other party to mobilize their base. Both use gay marriage, gun abolition and abortion to fire up their base. Both present as potential candidates Rinos and Dinos. All serve their donors. None serve the people. Both parties grow the size and power of the federal government. Both have agreed to suspend the Constitution. Neither party tells the truth and neither party has embraced the end of growth and peak oil. For all practical purposes, Democrats and Republicans are members of the same tag team. If either party takes out the other the game is over and there is no one left to blame. They realize this and so the great game continues.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]America’s ‘Food Stamp Nation’ continues to grow
Bill Schiller / Toronto Star / February 11, 2012

In 2006, there were 26.7 million people on food stamps in America. By September 2011, that number had grown to a record 46.3 million, bigger by far than Canada’s population of 33 million, and equal to that of Spain.

Some wealth needs to be redistributed.

Food stamps are a form of wealth redistribution.

Its called "market segmentation". In some cases, two identical products can be packaged and named differently, and marketed to two different market segments. There's a lot of marketing that goes on, and most people are not aware of how ever present it is in our everyday lives or how effective it is.

That is why I'm so amused when scientists are attempting earnest science, say climate research, and then act shocked when they get bombarded by vitriole from people who bought into the marketing. But then again, I took marketing in college as an accounting major, but the scientists and the people criticizing them most likely did not.
An ideology is by definition not a search for TRUTH-but a search for PROOF that its point of view is right

The Roman Empire had the dole, and it eventually included olive oil, wine, pork and baked bread. Of course there was the circus as well. Hence the term "bread and circus". This is the way that all empires keep people fed. The maximum number on the dole was around 320,000, which was about a third of Romans at the time. It still took a long time for the empire to go down, but eventually the "anona" quit coming and the empire collapsed. Rome ended up being a city of around 40,000 in the middle ages. Here's a coin with Annona, goddess of wheat pouring out a cornucopia during Nero's reign:Image

Here's a really interesting discussion of the dole. (scroll down):

Behold the Noble Baguette

Flour, 5lb bag, $1.84 -> 0.08 cents/gram
Yeast, 908g pkg, $9.50 -> 1.05 cents/gram
Salt, 741g pkg $0.34 -> 0.05 cents/gram
Water, gallon, 1cent -> oh never mind
Electricity 11cents/kwh

195g Flour + 4g Yeast + 3g Salt + 128g Water... -> 20cents
Bake at 450F, 15min or so.. < 10 cents

~700 decent, filling food calories... $0.30.

These are current prices, even with the last few years food inflation.

**notes:
a) Yes my oven sucks, so does yours. I can't get reliable, even, non-radiative 300C heat, and neither can you.
b) Adjust moisture ratio for your location, preferences, etc.
c) Nutritionally, you can add some oil to tweak the carb/fat ratio, i routinely add about 12g olive oil to the above, but this is evil, and if you have French blood in you, it might revolt and make you trip while parking your bicycle, which is embarrassing.
Yes we are, as we are,
And so shall we remain,
Until the end.

Another record in number of people receiving food stamps

Oct 2011 46,224,775
Nov 2011 46,286,294

I wonder what if this pace continues for many years, one day the whole USA will be fed by Food Stamps :)

The real question is whether or not Obama can achieve this goal in only four more years.
