$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')his isn't suggesting any are redundant, just that theres alot of repeat work happening, reentering stories already 'borrowed' elsewhere, essentially wasting ppls time. And in 3, 6, or 18 months, ppl are going to discover their families/bosses want them back, and sites will stagnate and disappear. If we could share the workload better, we'll all be able to do a better job for longer, spend more time checking/improving/searching for content instead of just entering it.
Imagine a single newswire that authorised users (anybody who asks nicely, behaves ok) visit to enter stories they've found and source other news
I actually quite like the present situation as it is quite the improvement over the olgarchic and corrupted and compromised mass media situation currently...the concentration of news power into about 5 giant corporations should frighten the hell out of anyone who believes in a free press. See the links below about how bloggers are literally re-defining journalism before our eyes...
This is citizen journalism as it was meant to be be!!!!!! De-centralization means they cannot shut it down entirely, it is a MUCH stronger defense against CORRUPTION, and it's JUST LIKE the internet itself...designed to withstand attack... It also has the benefit of increasing truth and accuracy and detail along the way by being able to be discussed, analyzed, dissected, rejected, etc..The Rather story was just a warm-up...
There can be no freedom without freedom of speech, and of the press.
But free press is under attack. Journalists are being TARGETED AND KILLED in Iraq they say. The mass media is not addressing people's primary need for truthful reporting on issues that a blind man could see.
(Want to know how ABSURD the media situation is? See this link about how a Clear Channel station attacked ITSELF to pretend it was a revolutionary radio station..
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')learChannel is its own worst critic:
It's no fun being a giant, continent-spanning conglomerate -- just ask ClearChannel, the U.S. radio behemoth. They get beaten up regularly because they own so many radio stations, and that gives them a lot of clout when it comes to what music gets played, and even what kinds of bands get to tour. This irritates music fans, of course, and many independent radio stations make it a point to take jabs at the company whenever possible -- including a new underground "pirate" radio station called Radio Free Ohio, based in Akron, which has been loudly insulting Clear Channel with broadcasts that "bleed" into nearby channels owned by the company. Unfortunately for ClearChannel, the enterprising folks at another station called WOXY took a look at who set up the pirate station's website, and found it was apparently owned by none other than ClearChannel itself. Nice try, guys.
Globe and Mail The funny part is not only did this illustrate the utter duplicity and sheer absurdity of total media domination, it INCORRECTLY mentioned that another radio station took them down, but it was THE BLOGGERS ON THE RADIO STATION SITE that did it. I watched it happen in real time. It was unbelievable and hilarious at the same time!!!
This should not surprise anyone.
Case in point, at home journalists are getting "knocks on doors"....
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')ustoms Cops Visit Bill Conroy with an Attack on Press Freedom
At 5:55 p.m. last night, Monday, May 23rd, in San Antonio, Texas, Agent Carlos Salazar of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, accompanied by a female agent who failed to identify herself, made a surprise visit to the home of Narco News journalist Bill Conroy, a reporter, and author of the online book Borderline Security, who has broken a string of stories about embarrassing and worrisome problems inside Salazar’s agency.
