People, remember the wattage posted on the power supply is what it's capable of converting from A/C 120 (or 220 depending on where you are) to 12/5 volts DC. It's not what your actually using. Though I do agree that most of the power is used by the processor. 50-100 watts is typical for modern processors. If you want to be more efficient I would suggest using older technology. The trend has been to push more watts through the processor with a equal attempt to eliminate the resultant heat (huge heatsinks).
Otherwise a laptop. I'm looking at my laptop's PS and it states 19.5X4.62= 90 watts and I'm fairly sure it's not using half of the rated output.
I think in the future pending our energy problem we will see machines more closely modeled for thier purpose... i.e maybe I won't use my 3 gigaherz machine to surf the web... I mean how fast can I read? Certainly not faster than the processer can render it.
