If that is the case, then they are hurting her.

Perhaps that's the reason she became a whore. Perhaps that explains the American people's acceptance of the horrible deeds of the military industrial complex. Perhaps we created this nightmare. Now that I think about it, we did. We allowed this to happen.

People calling in on CSpan want to censor the news because it's causing riots. No matter if there is any truth to the story or not. I wonder if the Newsweek fiasco will lead to media censorship. It's already done covertly, now perhaps overtly.

We reap what we sow.
Now why didn't I take the blue pill.

As far as being American goes its Truth, Liberty and Justice for all and I'm glad some truth will be coming out.

that looks really good, I can't wait. I just hope I can retain it in my swiss cheese memory. I can't even leave a big note for myself cause it will just get packed away (I'm moving in a week)

Yes it appears the story is due to a supply disruption, not depletion. However it still may help people to see how the S could hit the F if oil is disrupted.

Then they are primed for that moment when it occurs to them as they hear about all these supply/production issues that there may be something to worry about.

My take is that, after June 5, 2005, those who had seen the movie will have been put on notice that suddenly, out of nowhere, their comfortable lifestyles could become obsolete. While it may be easy, for the moment, to watch the movie, get scared, and then laugh it off when it's over, America, in fact, is in imminent danger.

Regardless of how the oil shock is precipitated in the movie, movies such as this, and the water-cooler conversations resulting therefrom, can effectively plant seeds of fear in the national conciousness, which later could be exploited by the PTB to gain the political support required to carry out their preconceived dastardly deeds. The movie is running on a Fox network. And people, in general, are sheeple -- automatons. The movie could be scare propaganda, or, on the other hand, just more of the same, garden-variety, dull infotainment.

Heh, I see this as bad

I see this movie turning most people away from Peak-Oil...

Most people still think Global Warming/Climate change is a 'debate'... that damn movie was freaking horrible and did more harm (enormous) than good (negligible).

Most people just want to turn away, ignore it, and partake in their daily lives...

Quite likely. Also what the mind controllers are doing is establishing a "frame". Soaring oil prices are due to terrorists. Just like everything that didn't work in Stalin's time was due to "wreckers".

I will be watching the movie, but I remember the general impact "The Day After Tomorrow" had on the global warming debate: by representing the theme in a grade-C "Godzilla" movie format, it left viewers with the impression that the true scientific arguments for global warming held about as much substance as the plot of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"; i.e., none.

By substituting the 'terrorism' hotbutton for the real cause of concern for an oil shock: the lack of spare production capacity in the face of skyrocketing global demand, the "Oil Shock" movie's producers can pretend to offer a solution; that simply by controlling terra'ists and terra'ist nations, we can drive our Ford Excessive's eternally without concern. Nevermind reality. Pay no attention to the Saudi Aramco official behind the curtain.

Make PO a watercooler conversation laughingstock, along with global-warming.

Bubbling Crude,

I agree with your comments about the "Day After Tomorrow" making climate change into a joke. That movie, while it did have some impressive special effects, was a B movie IMO.

Some co-workers and I were discussing last year and their reaction to it was exactly as you said.

I see this Oil Storm movie having a similar effect.

Oil shortage, that's science fiction... :)

Its a mind game sure, but remember this is a MOVIE.

What you are seeing is the "scary" promos to get you to watch it.

Its not going to end with the end of the world. It will end with a HAPPY ENDING.

So what you have (like several posters said) is going to be a MIND GAME with a HAPPY ENDING. This movie is not going to go "down the rabbit hole".

This ending will have the kind of stuff (ethyanol, etc.) we see from our troll on a regular basis.

Message. There will be some EXCITING (hehe) suffering etc, but all will be well in the end, and man's superior intellect will "find a way". (Nothing really to see here move along move along, we have a plan (not according to Matt Simmons) and all is well.

(June has long been the "target" month for for Iran and the nuke thingy around the internet. Not a prediction on my part, but its part of this "supply disruption" equation we keep hearing about, hmmm)

Zentric, Pure propaganda. A perfect example that something that is essentially true can be used in a propaganda coup, as you describe.

Bittorrent is the defacto standard at this time. I like Bitcomet as a client... of course you know that this violates copyrights. :o

Hmm..

Promo got me interested..

I may have to retrack my statement about it.

I do liike how it has an accident (not terrorists, not peak oil) cut the oil - it's a neutral, accidental threat. I do like how it says something like, "Americans don't know how fragile the lifeline is."

Overall, it might awaken a few people to the obvious (that is, that America is very dependant on oil). That combined with learning that oil is fossil fuel, people might accept peak oil more readily - but I don't think people will take steps to reduce their dependance just because of the movie. (That's kinda silly.)

I'd agree that that the occurence of fairly neutral, but of course, as Hollywood likes to do, sensationalizes it (otherwise why the hell would anyone watch ;) ). The 70's had some of the BEST disaster movies, but lately disaster flicks are getting so technologically advanced, it's incredible just to watch...

Here's another point. They make a big deal about ONE MILLION BARRELS of oil GONE, like that a great big number in relation to the reality of the world's use or something. When I heard that, I envisioned Dr. Evil with his right finkey upturned at the side of his crooked smile!

ONE........MILLION..........BARRELS!! BWAAAAHAHAH! BWAAAAHAHAHAHA!

In reality, it's a drop in the bucket. The world uses at the moment 84 million barrels per day.

Oh, shoot, I just realized there's already a thread on this. My bad.

Bittorent is the open source P2P protocol but third party clients are more advance than then client offered by bittorent.org. Dirrect Connect is more like a centralized Napster hub and more prone to scrutiny by RIAA and others that would like to sue you. In other words it's more distriubted and less likely to draw attention... but this is way off topic.

This whole thing is just debasement of the very concept. Just as global warming was misrepresented, this movie is cheap mockery.

If you can make something laughable out of anything
The public no longer takes it seriously.

Oil Shock is a smear campaign.
Look who's made it.
You can't win.
You can't break even.
You can't leave the game.

"Oil Storm" on FX

Unread postby Rich » Wed 01 Jun 2005, 14:46:06

The cable network FX is broadcasting an original movie called "Oil Storm" this Sunday, 6/5 at 8:00pm ET and repeats at 10:00pm ET.

Although this movie is not directly related to Peak Oil, it deals with the exact problem of complete dependence on petroleum. Documentary-style footage reveals the aftermath of disastrous events that disrupt the flow of oil to the United States.

The movie's tag line is "America's Lifeline Has Been Severed".

Spread the work for people to watch, maybe the message will sink in.
