If I could figure out some way to get my ISP to renew with a different IP I'm guessing I could vote multiple times... but that's coming from an American. :P

Actually, I just deleted my cookies and site did allow me to vote again, I haven't yet. Not ethical certainly.

Don't worry, they cull by IP on the backend most likely.

I can't seem to find the end-date for the voting..... Would it be ethical to get a non-PO forum (I'm running it) of a few hundred members to help me vote it up?

On another question : I still am struggling with why publicizing PO is a good thing. If widespread publicity unto understanding is able to steer a global stabilization to our population and resource growth (e.g. drop or make it 0 growth) for a slow die-off, I can understand. However, if such a publicity has little effect to stave a hard crash, what's the use?

Thanks for any answers.

On the first question, if they know what they are voting on, and have the permission
not to vote, or vote for something different, then I think it would be completely
ethical to persuade them to vote. If you have the power to coerce them then that
would be unethical, of course.

On the second question, I would rather not have the blindfold when facing a firing squad.
Also, if some incredibly inventive mind can really see a way out of the problem, but
he or she is not aware of the problem, they may not have the time (may not anyway) to disiminate their plan.

The publicity needs to reach individuals. It's already too late to do much at a governmental level. But individuals can do a lot for themselves and their family and friends. While it may not have a huge effect over the big picture (globally), the effect in the lives of those who get the message in time to do something in their own life can be humungous. The more who know and can work toward solutions, the more people we save at the other end.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jimmyz', 'f')unny how Climate change is number one...peak oil will take care of that lol.
Why do you think that? At peak oil there's still as much oil left to burn as we've burned so far and when energy becomes short we use coal for a higher proportion of our energy requirements, coal releasing far more CO2 per unit energy. Peak oil is not good for climate or environment over the next hundred years... maybe in a few thousand years with less humans around things will be better.

Agree that peak oil will likely make climate change worse, not better. Even if we don't succumb to the dark side (coal), other countries will. Particularly China, which has large coal deposits. Unfortunately, a lot of it is nasty - soft, dirty brown coal, contaminated with arsenic and the like. Very polluting. They already burn so much of it that the resulting acid rain is killing their crops.

Then there's heavy, sour crude. No one wants it now, because it's harder to refine and more polluting, but when sweet, light crude is $100 a barrel, people will likely be willing to overlook a few emissions problems.

It's really alarming how fast the climate is changing. I always thought climate change was gradual, but things are changing pretty fast now. Perhaps not all due to human causes, but still - it makes planning for the future difficult.

Voted this morning. Thanks Lorenzo.

Peak Oil only got on the list because one of the www.powerswitch.org.uk members emailed the BBC editor a few weeks ago. We've circulated all the powerswitch members, I hope they all vote. I think this is another indication that the media are becoming attuned to the subject.

relaxin' on a sunday afternoon...

cheers

Well, if they even think that, and they think people went through all of the trouble TO rig it (which i dont believe it was), I'm sure they believe the response will be good.
