“Meticulous attention,” the president insisted in 1937, “should be paid to the special relations and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the Government….The process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service.” The reason? F.D.R. believed that “[a] strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to obstruct the operations of government until their demands are satisfied. Such action looking toward the paralysis of government by those who have sworn to support it is unthinkable and intolerable.”

FDR knew it, said it well.

#1. There are simply too many people because,
#2. there are not enough jobs for everyone because,
#3. there aren't enough physical resources to be exploited anymore because,
#4. we've already been there, done that because,
#5. we've all drastically misinterpreted what it means to be alive because,
#6. we've seen the benefits of easy living because,
#7. we've already exploited all the resources necessary for easy living because,
#8. everybody wants the easy way of life because,
#9. we all think we're now entitled to an endless supply of everything we want because.
#10. Humans are stupid and have completely wasted the lives we were given.

So I wonder how far they'll go with the strike? If they give up their right to collectively bargain then that's it, you don't have a union anymore after that.

The cops are picketing with the teachers !

And many of the National Guard are teachers.

Let's see if the state tries tries to do something Chinese style, like bring in the Guard from a different state.

Apparently the "unions are ruining us" story line neglects to tell how the governor gave big tax breaks to out-of-state companies (his campaign donors) and that is why WI is suddenly broke.

I don't think anyone in their right mind is arguing that there shouldnt be pay cuts, what people are really outraged about is losing their collective bargaining rights. If I lived there I'd be in the streets with em this morning.

I think one of the reasons the Club For Growth/Tea party candidates are in such a rush to make radical changes is that many of them will be paralyzed by endless personal sandal by the end of the year.

This article says police have been dispatched to track down the Democratic senators:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')ADISON, Wis. – Police officers were dispatched Thursday to find Wisconsin state lawmakers who had apparently boycotted a vote on a sweeping bill that would strip most government workers of their collective bargaining rights.

The state-police-chasing-the-legislators happened somewhere a couple years ago.

Also interesting is that you have Walker appointees doing this and that one of them is father of the new GOP head of the state house. So they've already turned over key parts of the government to GOP family control.

I don't know, I admire their spunk. The witch on CNN right now was horrible to one senator who called in. Who the heck is she, on Republicans' payroll? I've never heard such a rude interview, "why didn't you show up to work today" blah blah blah.

She kept trying to pin him down where they were. All he'd say is that "the capital has been occupied by citizens" and the Dem senators are in a secure undisclosed location. He said they won't return unless the collective bargaining elimination is dropped.

Good on 'em, somebody's gotta stick up for workers' rights.

Or just maybe we're broke, and someone has figured out we need to pay our bills .

Nah, its widespread personal scandals.

Somebody's gotta stick up for workers' rights, screw those Wisconsin people that pay the taxes!

I'll just chip to say that the days of silly work rules, seniority and fat benies (payable sometime down the road) are over - as they should be.

But I'm really surprised the people of WI are surprised republicans would like to see the end of unions just as much as they'd like to see the elimination of taxes on the wealthy, the minimum wage, unemployment insurance or and any other social services program for that matter. It's not like either party has ever been very successful hiding who their true constituents are.

Where were these people in November?
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
