That was Texas, I believe. The Democrats ran off to Oklahoma as I recall.

Yeah well you see what great shape Texas is in now, eh? They won't even open the books to show how in debt they are.

Neither group is fiscally responsible, look at John Boehner and Eric Cantors support of 3billion in pork for a second F-35 engine that the military doesnt want. They represent corporations and they will sell out anyone and anything to keep their jobs.

.......Aaaaaaand where in those debates did Walker promise to steamroller through an end to collective bargaining?

We heard a lot of this after the invasion of Iraq. Philosophers even write formal justifications about "creating their own reality" instead of just calling it "lying."

Often when you deal with brazenly dishonest people they will pretty much look you in the eye and say "Yeah, I lied to you, but you were dumb enough to believe me. Whose fault is that? Pfffft!"

Unlike his neighbor Illinois, Walker is taking a responsible position of trying to get spending under control. His government union friends are about to get a lesson in why Republicans were elected to their positions in Wisconsin. That being, to cut spending, not to continue to raise taxes so that union workers can continue to pay nothing towards their health care and pensions.

If that requires breaking the stranglehold that unions have on state government spending, sounds like a good start to me.

I'm not so sure we're "going broke" as much as too much money is going into too few pockets.. it's wealth re-distribution, a return to 19th century income inequality.

Having said that.. the writing is obviously on the wall for state employees. Anybody who works for government should take note now and plan accordingly. Although I'd guess federal employees will keep their benefits the longest (since the federal government can print its money, whereas a state cannot).

Protests spread to Ohio:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')eb. 18 (Bloomberg) -- In what union leaders say is becoming a national fight, protests against legislation to restrict public employees’ collective-bargaining rights spread from Wisconsin to Ohio.

In Madison, Wisconsin, crowds that police estimated at 25,000 engulfed the Capitol and its lawns yesterday during a third-straight day of protests as Democratic senators fled the legislative session. In Columbus, Ohio, about 3,800 state workers, teachers and other public employees came to the statehouse for a committee hearing. President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, an Ohioan, argued over whether the bills are “an assault on unions.”

Ohio firefighters Dave Hefflinger and Jerry Greer said they were. They stood near hundreds of workers elbow-to-elbow in the statehouse atrium and listened to a Senate hearing through speakers. Chants of “Kill the bill” echoed.

“We’re here to support our brothers and sisters,” Hefflinger, a 27-year veteran, said in an interview. “They’re trying to take away what we fought for all of these years.”

Are the Wisconsin democratic legislators still hiding in Illinois in order to shut down the state government?

Whats next? Are the democrats going to hold their breath until they turn blue until they get their way?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cog', 'H')is government union friends are about to get a lesson in why Republicans were elected to their positions in Wisconsin.

True, 'pubs turned out big time in WI.

Is it just me getting to be an old git (?) or have we seen this whole plot before:
Big dem win takes both houses and prez
Dems go nuts, piss off the right
Big 'Pub win takes back some seats
"Pubs go nuts, shut down .gov
Pub's lose.

I'm betting O'l Mitch is hacked - his stated purpose in life is to defeat O and the Partiers are pulling a Gingritch.

Perhaps.
History doesn't repeat itself but it rhyhms frequently. This time the right seems far more dug in and much more organized than in the past. Two years of the O and the Democratic party may be destroyed already.

I say we give that a shot. Obviously, human civilization can't exist in any orderly manner on our own.

Hell, they were saying that about the Republicans after the 08 elections. Don't forget that Americans are impatient with a memory that spans about a week.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Fishman', 'T')his time the right seems far more dug in and much more organized than in the past.

I don't pay a whole lot of attention but heard some head say the 'pubs are usually on the way to having a candidate y this time, whadda you think?

I found this:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')ast month, Huckabee had a 24-14 advantage over Romney and
Sarah Palin, but now he has declined to 20% over Romney’s 17%, Palin’s 15%, and
Newt Gingrich’s 12%.
I don't know who these pollsters are...
