Found an interesting read here, most of it checks out from other sources. 9/11 was an important date 175 years ago but I would guess %99 of Americans would not have a clue about what transpired from that day forward for a short period, only to be quashed and more or less removed from the "official" history of the United States for lack of a better word. The anti-Masonic movement. It even had its own political party!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Oaths of the Blue Degrees 1 -3 of Freemasonry', 'A')ll this I most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear, with a firm and steadfast resolution, to keep and perform the same without any equivocation, mental reservation or secret evasion of mind whatever, binding myself under a no less penalty than that of having my throat cut across, my tongue torn out by its roots and buried in the rough sands of the sea at low water mark, where the tide ebbs and flows twice in twenty-four hours… [end 1st degree, Entered Apprentice].
…having my breast torn open, my heart plucked out and given as a prey to the beast of the field and the fowls of the air… [end 2nd degree, Fellow Craft].
…having my body severed in twain, my bowels taken from thence and burned to ashes, and the ashes scattered to the four winds of heaven, that no trace or remembrance may be had of so vile and perjured a wretch as I… [end 3rd degree, Master Mason]. …should I ever knowingly violate this my solemn obligation. So help me God, and keep me steadfast in the due performance of the same.
Hardly surprising any Mason anywhere would claim anything other than pure and utter tinfoil regarding their society, claiming only to be working for the good of mankind. It is no veiled threat.
Consider this...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('June 13, 1861, the Committee of Correspondence, Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania', 'M')asonry is as old as government. It constitutes a government in itself. Its origin, principles, organization and administration are to be found in loyalty, obedience, hope charity, love. It is operative everywhere, because its foundation can be laid among mankind wherever mankind exist. Resistance to, or disobedience of any of these principles is not permitted in Masonic sovereignty. Masonry could not exist a moment, it would not have lived longer than languages, races, and empires, if it had tolerated insubordination or rebellion against its authority.
The following claim is interesting research...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')reemasonry, however, was not dead. Of the original 50,000 Masons in our land prior to the Morgan Affair, the remaining 5,000 went underground to plan a strategy for Freemasonry’s comeback. The result was Civil War!
