I answered Environmental Science, but it is sort of quasi. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies - Land Use Planning and work as a GIS Analyst (Geographic Information Systems).

The thread title is, "What do you do?"... but the poll choices ask, 'What is your education'? Watch it from now on sucka!! :!:

For many, myself included, my degrees are unrelated to 'what I now do'.
I have a Masters in Education, but my currently employment has very little to do with 'education', although in the end I do educate those with whom I contact professionally.

BS degrees in Biology/Psychology

Currently working towards a PhD in Biological and Agricultural Engineering at UC Davis, specializing in alternative fuel design. Peak oil was the #1 facotr in deciding my future career. Had I not known about peak oil I'd probably be doing some molecular biology work.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Raphael', 'I') am an 'Entropy Buster' however most would call me a firefigther.

Interesting that I should be putting out fires for nearly a quarter century.

Fires which could be defined as 'a rapid oxidation and release of heat and light'.

Here I am on Peak Oil, as a conservation advocate probably for the rest of my life trying to put out the biggest fire mankind is participating in, but this fire operates in geological time, it is known as Entropy.

I do however one more thing well, get under people's skin.

Namaste

You don't beat entropy, you live within the limits it provides. Beating entropy is like beating relativity or the square rule of eletrical fields.

Started off undergrad as an electrical engineering major. After two and a half years of that, I decided I would end up blowing my brains out if I had to spend 40 years in a flourescent lit cubicle designing VCR's.

Got my undergrad in Chemistry. Math minor. Then med school.

Will finish family practice residency in June of this year. Practice will probably focus mostly on reproductive health & abortion.

Started out in biology, the went into law. Quit that and started a business manufacturing shortwave communications antennas and electronics, now working as a land use planner for a small town. And that's the short version...

What do I do for a living? I beat relativity, and for a hobby I whip the sh** out of the square rule of electrical fields. You should see what I do with gravity. Man, I fall up laughing just thinking about it.

Sorry engineers. I figured you'd just add whatever kind of engineering you do to the closest category of science. I did leave out pure math and yes the thread title was misleading (purposely!). Fantastic responses though! I guess not suprisingly a lot of computer related professionals/ trained individuals - it is the internet after all...

A PO dead end!

Dont say that, i'm studying electronic engineering at the university of exeter.

Alright, it might not be as useful as some other things like farming/agriculture but its better than some of the worthless degrees that some people i know are studying, not mentioning any names... cough... economics... cough.

Engineering in general will provide us with lots of useful skills which will still be in demand when the shit has hit the fan, someone will have to build the wind turbines and maintain the (bio)diesel generators and build other stuff.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', 'L')iberal Arts degree and half a masters in Music.

I've supported myself and my family very well for over 30 years as a programmer/software engineer.

Interesting. I went to St. John's College, where I got a liberal arts degree. After college, I went into the field of genomics (DNA sequence databases), where I worked as a data munger/programmer for nine years. I did reasonably well in the dot com boom/bust, due to lucky timing. I was unemployed for almost all of 2003, a year in which I got married and went on a long honeymoon to New Zealand and Hawaii, then spent an agonizing several months looking for work. Since the beginning of 2004, I've worked as a data munger/programmer in the anti-spam field, which bears a striking similarity to genomics.

I figure every time I prevent a mail server from processing unwanted mail, I prevent industry from wasting energy. IT departments buy fewer mail servers to process garbage, data centers all over the world draw less power, and end users don't waste time and energy deleting unwanted mail. In some small, indirect way, my job is part of the solution, I hope.

I now snipe unidentified/incorrectly listed antique glass on ebay and then sell it through auction houses back east (don't tell the IRS) and tend my ever expanding garden.

I am a produce manager at a grocery store.I have no degrees at all,but I am a produce specialist.I also have experience with hunting, fishing, growing gardens, and small farming (including raising various poultry and livestock.I am 23 years old married with an eight month old little girl.As a boy my favorite book was "MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN". I personally am excited to return to a more simple life intead of working 40+ hours a week to survive in a system thats flawed and failing.I believe that the rat race we have created is rediculous and instead of enjoying life and truly appreciating what a gift this planet is and just taking a minute to take it all in. Instead we rush by to work to make more imaginary money to pay our bills that just keep getting higher and to consume whatever flashy new gidget or gadget our minds desire. In a well formed government or community,Prices of goods and services should get cheaper not more expensive. We have alot of fear and alot of greed. The doctor fears he is not making enough to support his family so he raises his fees then the lawyer fears that because the doctor raised his fees he won't have enough cash either, this starts a pattern that works itself into the price of everything and basically I want out and I'm not counting on riches I'm counting on a collapse Sad ,but true

I had to reply other. I am currently a non traditional student pursuing both an engineering degree (interdisiplanary) and a professional writing degree.

The first time around, in Jr. College, I explored music, musical instrument repair, law enforcement, machine shop practices, and business. Didn't graduate.

Became an Armed Security Officer in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

Worked as a machinist in a number of small shops, and as a locksmith.

Not to mention a lot of small temporary jobs in construction, and home remodeling.

Still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. (Age: 43)
I know exactly where we are;
. . . .
don't know where we're going, but no use in being late.
