$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bruce_S', ' ')So just having one of those kinds of pensions certainly puts you pretty high up the food chain compared to us regular working peons. Good for you Mr Pilot. Job well done. Makes me wish I had followed my dreams as a lab and became a pilot...I am so jealous.

Your reading comprehension is failing you. I said its GONE. Yes the nice fat pension that 50+ years of airline pilots enjoyed is gone. Its gone for several reasons, one of which is high oil prices. By the way The job I currently have is still highly compensated because its very competitive and not everyone can do what I do. I sought it out for reasons other than money.

You can argue all day long about the Volt and how its going to save us. Meanwhile those who grasp FACTS see it for what it is...a POS which costs far too much, is fraught with dangerous crash characteristics, and they cant give them away at half the cost! Yeah theres a vehicle I want in my garage!

My mother works for American as a flight attendant, she was planning on retiring soon. I'm a bit worried about her pension now that AA has declared bankruptcy.

OT, I thought I should report that KSA claims to be pumping 10mbd:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') senior Saudi oil official told Reuters the kingdom produced 10.047 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil excluding condensate in November, well above previous estimates.

"Saudi Arabia's production has been fluctuating this year. It has reached over 10 million bpd in November excluding condensate because consumer demand was higher," the official said.

A Reuters survey estimated Saudi oil supply in November at 9.45 million bpd, up from 9.40 million bpd in October and 8.25 million bpd in November 2010.

...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')arry Tchilinguirian, analyst at BNP Paribas, said Saudi Arabia had never produced 10 million bpd in the last decade.

"We do not buy that number," Tchilinguirian said. "This may simply be case of the usual pre-OPEC meeting build-up in communication where Saudi is showing its strength as the main holder of spare production capacity."

I wonder what other analysts are saying for Saudi production. Interesting comment from the BNP man. None of this is going to be about production anyway, its going to be about Global Net Exports. As time goes on and we recognize the peak, the exporters will begin hoarding. Its typical human nature with a valuable resource. I'd submit that with Export land we are already seeing the beginnings of this.

I just noticed also that according to the Saudi's themselves demand is up! Funny how most folks believe this is NOT the case.

Looks like I might be late to the party, but I'll throw in my .02

As far as the all time peak goes, as KSA goes so does the world. They can never come out and admit they are unable to produce more, so when they peak it'll be "Demand has dropped so we're pumping 8.5mbpd. We can still produce 12mbpd if needed. $180 dollars is the price we'll defend." The real story will be demand was crushed because of their inability to keep prices down. That's been the case since 05 me thinks.

Things like the volt are nothing but big RC cars in my opinion. I'll take myself as an example here, I'm looking for a new(er) car here in the next few months. I've looked at what used hybrids are out there, and other efficient models. However the Volt isnt even in the back of my mind. I have a 5 mile commute, so it seems like that would be perfect for me. The price is way too prohibitive.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bruce_S', 'I') do not dispute your information. But you also didn't say a word about the power of the exponential function, a point which Albert has been pounding home for decades now. Are you suggesting that he is incorrect in making the statement that we ignore the exponential function at our own peril? That from such small beginnings we can't remake the world, as we did with crude oil? Certainly some industries will do worse than others Think...buggy whip manufacturers.

Was I missing something, or was the whole point of Albert's ranting about the exponential function that when it took place in the natural world it was always completely unsustainable, and led to a crash when whatever resource base the growth was based on ran out? Large scale windpower projects have the same resource base as everything else in the industrial economy: Cheap fossil fuels.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bruce_S', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AirlinePilot', '
') I most assuredly understand the exponential function. I also understand the reality of how markets/capital and energy constraints work which you seem unable to grasp.

Says who? Just because I don't fall for the switcheroo of peak oil/financial hijinks doesn't mean anything. This is a peak oil website, if I wanted to endlessly debate capital costs, financing and currency manipulation or whatnot, I would find a website for that. This place...ain't that place.

I'm a little curious Bruce, what exactly are your beliefs on the nature of the relationship between the world of money and finance and the world of capital and energy? what is it you believe that allows you to be so dismissive whenever the idea that they are linked in an important way comes up?
