$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('efarmer', 'R')onald Reagan had to incur massive debt under his stimulus program in the 1980's.
Which sums up the prosperity of the 80s, more or less. It was all funded by debt spending through a military build-up. As for oil, the administration's decision was to let the market decide that we would become completely dependent on foreign oil imports, instead of a country like, say, Brazil, where they told the market to go hang and found a viable oil-substitute in sugar cane alcohol.
But back to a GOP majority. So they win. Then what?
They've got no austerity plan that any congressman can stomach. They've got no magical supply of money unless they print it - which is more or less what the democrats would do. They have no oil. And what they mostly have is
no independence. Like the Democrats, the GOP is made of tools and fools who answer to the Koch brothers and their ilk. They will just continue the 3rd-worlding of America - a situation that suits the world's wealthy just fine, assuming they even notice.
As far as I'm concerned. Let the GOP win. The country can then get a nice little reminder about why they were kicked out in the first place and the GOP congress, those lucky souls, can take the heat for a while. With no solutions from either the Democrats or Republicans, perhaps we can start looking at a multi-party system that controls the power of the wealthy.
Because until that happens, nothing else does.
