$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')pparently. You ought to see the teensy tiny little rustic old cabins they're trying to save up in the mountains. That's where they're sending the DC-10 firebomber.

It has been 30 years since I have been anywhere near San Diego. Are those "rustic cabins" full time occupied residences or the rustic cabins we have here for weekend getaways for the upper middle class? How much do they sell for?

If the former than I would say they have to keep up appearances (saving the homes of the "little guy"). I doubt we keep 1 hour's worth of flame retardant foam up here. If the latter, it supports my point. The upper middle class of So. Cal is the aristocracy here in the midwest.

What a profound insult to anybody who ever put on a firefighter's helmet. You actually think fire departments prioritize by wealth and social status?

What the hell kind of personal issues do you have that would make you spew such horseshit?

Absolutely Zardoz...

The rich have always been prioritized over the poor why does this come as a shock to you?

What is the water situation at or near the fires? What is being used to combat the fires-water, foan, or a combination?

The Witch fire hit my town today. The FD is doing a kick ass job on saving the houses which are defendable. Rich/poor did not enter the equasion.

More pics and comments later tonight.... (hopefully)

I concur with this. The firefighters will do what they can and they don't discriminate by wealth.

God bless the FD's. To believe they discriminate is ludicrous.

My thoughts are with you guys, PMS and Jato. Be safe.

Thanks for all your good wishes, but jato is much more danger than I am. Aside from that, I've lived in this town for 53 years and never seen anything like this. Things are changing.

If you were close to foreclosure would you light up your house if a fire were near?

Just thought I would throw that out there!

More evacuations and new fires

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')here was no official figure for the number of people forced to flee, but the fires were being called the state's largest evacuation crisis. San Diego officials said they had ordered 346,000 homes evacuated. At more than two people per home and with evacuations elsewhere, that could mean more than 700,000 people have fled to shelters, hotels, relatives and friends.

The extent of the damage was widespread, with more than 400,000 acres burned. More than 1,500 homes and other structures were destroyed, 1,300 in San Diego alone.

I saw a live shot from a TV news helicopter that had climbed to high altitude to survey the scene. It turned toward the south and showed us the view of San Diego County. It looked like it had been nuked. The smoke is unbelievable.

Thanks for the images Jato. As PMS knows Lake Hodges area was my boyhood home. Looks like it burned from the maps. Don't take any unnecessary risks. Let us know if you need anything.
