Blow You Away - Robert Earl Keen, last verse

The mattress is mildewed and lumpy
But you fall asleep where you lay.
Because under the lump's a 20 guage pump
Cause they'd just as soon blow you away.
The road goes on forever and the party never ends - REK

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PhilBiker', '

And horribly dis-figured hordes of satanic killers. . . and there is only, one, year, left.

Song Lyrics....having to do with PO and the like....

Unread postby catbox » Fri 23 Jun 2006, 00:04:52

Since I'm a music nut...punk....peak oiler type...I got to thinking the other day, what song lyrics would be good to post here at my favorite stop on the web? I'm starting this thread...maybe there is one already(?) ...in hopes that it might get interesting and turn some folks on to music they may not have otherwise have been into before as well as maybe stir things up a bit.

Anyway, I'll start with the
The Dead Kennedys "Winnebago Warrior". I have been seeing so many of the huge bus type RV things pulling SUV's lately!
This tune sums up my view of it all:

"Winnebago Warrior"
Roughin' it in the great outdoors
Guidebooks tell us where to go
Winnebago Warrior

Slow down traffic climbing hills
30 gallons to the mile
Honey, quick, the polaroid

[Chorus]
Winnebago Warrior
Brave as old John Wayne
Winnebago Warrior
A true yankee pioneer

Stop at Stuckey's for a meal
Blab all day on the CB
Winnebago Warrior

Littered campgrounds, folding chairs
Feed Doritos to the bears
Honey, quick, the polaroid

[Chorus]

Kill some fish down by the creek
Hang their picture by the sink
Show your grandson who's the boss

Tie your two toat-goats to the front
U-Haul trailer full of souvenirs
That you buy along the way

[Chorus]

lol the dead kennedys are still around? ;-)

"doing my part behind the lines swabbing cop car door handles with lsd-25" ;-)

lol thats one of my favorite DK verses yet I am no fan.

Now lets have a look at the darker side which may very well be closer to the truth.

Fall Into Sleep
by Mudvayne

Dreams of earthquakes
Dreams of hurricanes
Dreams of pouring rain
Dreams of tidal waves...to wash us all away
Dreams of guns blazed
Dreams of fire rage
Dreams of swollen graves
Dreams of hollow pain
All gone

No more fallen
No more enemy
No more casuality
No more dream

Fall into sleep
Fall into me
I have a dream
But nobody cares
Nobody wants to listen

Fall into sleep
Fall into me
Hang on to a dream that nobody wants
Nobody cares anymore

Dreams of mourning grief
Dreams of disbelief
Dreams of tragedy
Dreams of our disease...to take us all away
Dreams of fidelity
Dreams of inner peace
Dreams of loyalty
Dreams of unity
All gone
All gone

Fall into sleep
Fall into me
I have a dream
But nobody cares
Nobody wants to listen

Fall into sleep
Fall into me
Hang on to a dream that nobody wants
Nobody cares anymore

The angels are injured
Fall with broken burning wings
Are we dead inside
Are we blind
We can't keep moving forward
Backwards with closed eyes
We're losing sight
All lost inside

No more fallen
No more enemy

Fall into sleep
Fall into me
I have a dream
But nobody cares
Nobody wants to listen

Fall into sleep
Fall into me
Hang on to a dream that nobody wants
Nobody cares
Nobody wants
Nobody cares anymore

All gone
All gone
All gone
All gone

How about 'The hand that feeds' by NIN??

you're keeping in step
in the line
got your chin held high and you feel just fine
because you do
what you're told
but inside your heart it is black and it's hollow and it's cold

just how deep do you believe?
will you bite the hand that feeds?
will you chew until it bleeds?
can you get up off your knees?
are you brave enough to see?
do you want to change it?

what if this whole crusade's
a charade
and behind it all there's a price to be paid
for the blood
on which we dine
justified in the name of the holy and the divine

just how deep do you believe?
will you bite the hand that feeds?
will you chew until it bleeds?
can you get up off your knees?
are you brave enough to see?
do you want to change it?

so naive
to keep holding on to what I want to believe
i can see
but i keep holding on and on and on and on

will you bite the hand that feeds you?
will you stay down on your knees?

Bob Dylan: union sundown (last 2 verses)

Well, my shoes, they come from Singapore,
My flashlight's from Taiwan,
My tablecloth's from Malaysia,
My belt buckle's from the Amazon.
You know, this shirt I wear comes from the Philippines
And the car I drive is a Chevrolet,
It was put together down in Argentina
By a guy makin' thirty cents a day.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Well, this silk dress is from Hong Kong
And the pearls are from Japan.
Well, the dog collar's from India
And the flower pot's from Pakistan.
All the furniture, it says "Made in Brazil"
Where a woman, she slaved for sure
Bringin' home thirty cents a day to a family of twelve,
You know, that's a lot of money to her.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Well, you know, lots of people complainin' that there is no work.
I say, "Why you say that for
When nothin' you got is U.S.-made?"
They don't make nothin' here no more,
You know, capitalism is above the law.
It say, "It don't count 'less it sells."
When it costs too much to build it at home
You just build it cheaper someplace else.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Well, the job that you used to have,
They gave it to somebody down in El Salvador.
The unions are big business, friend,
And they're goin' out like a dinosaur.
They used to grow food in Kansas
Now they want to grow it on the moon and eat it raw.
I can see the day coming when even your home garden
Is gonna be against the law.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Democracy don't rule the world,
You'd better get that in your head.
This world is ruled by violence
But I guess that's better left unsaid.
From Broadway to the Milky Way,
That's a lot of territory indeed
And a man's gonna do what he has to do
When he's got a hungry mouth to feed.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

The Dead Kennedys have been around w/o Jello....
Jello is still doing his deal with other bands as well
spoken word stuff.

One of my other favorite bands, the Subhumans from the UK do this tune......

"APATHY"

Drink, Sex, Cigarettes
Ford Cortina household pets
Bombs? War? Famine? Death?
An apathetic public couldn t care less

The Public watches ITV
Reads The Sun drinks cups of tea
Two-star family stay content
Their lives controlled by parliament
Well daddy's lost his job again
Because he never had no brain
He only lives to watch TV
His life controlled by apathy

The Russians seem so far away
The government seems to be OK
The papers never mention war
Cos the people that they cater for have got….

The things that you never knew were there
Or was it that you didn't care
The biggest problem face to face
An apathetic human race

"Suburban Home" by the Descendents

I want to be stereotyped
I want to be classified
I want to be a clone
I want a suburban home
Suburban home
Suburban home
Suburban home
I want to be a masochistic
I want to be statistic

"A Farewell to Kings" by Rush

When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow
We turned our gaze
From the castles in the distance
Eyes cast down
On the path of least resistance

Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts
And cruel tormented eyes
Scheming demons
Dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude
And scoffing at the wise

The hypocrites are slandering
The sacred halls of Truth
Ancient nobles showering
Their bitterness on youth
Can't we find
The minds that made us stong
Can't we learn
To feel what's right and wrong

Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts
And cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons
Dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude
And scoffing at the wise
Can't we raise our eyes
And make a start
Can't we find the minds
To lead us closer to the Heart ?

"Waiting to Die"...
by
Zero 7 (off the new album, "The Garden":

It's just a day like any other day
A beautiful day for an accident, let's say
Yes it's just a day, like any other day
Just one step closer to the end of the buffet
La la la la la la
La la la la, 'cause we're waiting to die

Now it's a good time for a tasty glass of wine
Let's not burden our minds with carbon dioxide
And everyone hurry, don't sit and abide
Yes, everyone stand up, we're running out of time
La la la la la la
La la la la, 'cause we're waiting here to die

Look what a terrible mess that we've made
The sun beats us down as we search for the shade
And, yes, it is true, death is everyone's fate
But we've made it this far, it's time to celebrate
La la la la la
La la la la, 'cause we're waiting here to die
La la la la la

Roger Waters - from When The Wind Blows

TOWERS OF FAITH

Ooooh, the lonely boys In their towers of faith
Ooooh, the lonely boys
Locked in their towers of faith
The prophet reclined In the Golan Heights
Ohhh, the lonely boys
He said "This land is my land
To the Shiites
Ooooh, the lonely boys
And Jehova looked up from the Sea of Galilee beneath
He said
I see you, you thief
This land is my land
And this sand is my sand
And this band is my band
Oh the lonely boys Lookin' over their shoulders
Checkin' out every boulder in the park
Where the gates are closed from hate
After dark
And the Pope rolled up in his armored van
He fell on his knees and kissed the land
He said something that I did not understand
It was in Polish
Then up stepped an aide, he said
I will translate Here is what His Holiness said
I am the Chief Jesuit
This land is Jesus' land
And that is all All that there is to it
And in New York City The businessman in his mohair suit
In the world trade center Puffs on his cheroot
And he said
"Well I don't care who owns the desert sands
My brief Is with the hydrocarbons underneath
And the sea of battle rages around the ancient tombs
And mother nature licks her wounds
And the lonely boys locked in their towers of faith
Who are nervous in the park
when the gates are closed after dark
Ooooh, the lonely boys
In their towers of faith
Ooooh, the lonely boys
Locked in their towers of faith
"Complex problems have simple, easy to understand, wrong answers." - Henry Louis Mencken

You just can't have Doomer Punk without a nod to The Circle Jerk's "When the shit hits the fan".

in a sluggish economy
inflation,recession
hits the land of the free
standing in unemployment lines
blame the government for hard time
we just get by
however we can
we all gotta duck
when the shit hits the fan
10 kids in a cadillac
stand in lines for welfare checks
let's all leach off the state
gee!the money's really great!
soup lines
free loaves of bread
5lb blocks of cheese
bags of groceries
social security
has run out on you and me
we do whatever we can
gotta duck when the shit hits the fan
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

how about these from eons gone by....very appropriate for our current situation:

Bob Dylan : The Times they are a changin

Come gather round people
Wherever you roam
And admit you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth saving
Then you better start swimmin
Or youll sink like a stone
For the times they are a changing

Bunch of other verses and:

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a changing

Or the Byrds version of Maquire's Eve of Destruction:

The Eastern world, it is explodin',
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'.
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin',
You don't believe in war -- but what's that gun you're totin'?
An' even the Jordan river has bodies floatin'.
But you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say,
An' can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away,
There'll be no one to save, will the world in a grave.
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy.
An' you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here just contemplatin'.
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
Handful of senators don't pass legislation,
An' marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin',
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'.
An' you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China,
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama.
Ah, you may leave here for four days in space,
But when you return it's the same ol' place,
The poundin' of the drums, the pride an' disgrace.
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace.
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace,
An' tell me, over and over and over again, my friend,
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction,
No, no, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

I like Eve of Destruction Doc!

Here are some more oldies for you punkers.

One for the Country Cornucopian Optimists:

There's a big, brown cloud in the city,
And the countryside's a sin.
An' the price of life is too high to give up,
Gotta come down again.
When the world wide war is over and done,
And the dream of peace comes true.
We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb,
Eatin' that rainbow stew.
When they find out how to burn water,
And the gasoline car is gone.
When an airplane flies without any fuel,
And the satellite heats our home.
One of these days when the air clears up,
And the sun comes shinin' through.
We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb,
An' eatin' that rainbow stew.

Eatin' rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
Underneath that sky of blue.
All be drinkin' free bubble-ubb,
An' eatin' that rainbow stew.

You don't have to get high to get happy,
Just think about what's in store.
When people start doin' what they oughta be doin',
Then they won't be booin' no more.
When a President goes through the White House door,
An' does what he says he'll do.
We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb,
Eatin' that rainbow stew.

Eatin' rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
Underneath that sky of blue.
We'll all be drinkin' that free bubble-ubb,
Eatin' some rainbow stew.

Eatin' rainbow stew in a silver spoon,
Underneath that sky of blue.
All be drinkin' that free bubble-ubb,
Eatin' rainbow stew.

-- Thats Merle from sometime back in the ‘70s I think

And for you Backwoods Malthusian Pessimists:

The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a crop line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a crop line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Maybe Hank is a better choice for the Malthusian Optimist and a better selection for Malthusian Pessimists is this:

Come and listen you fellows, so young and so fine,
And seek not your fortune in the dark, dreary mines.
It will form as a habit and seep in your soul,
'Till the stream of your blood is as black as the coal.

CHORUS:
It's dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew,
Where danger is double and pleasures are few,
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mine.

It's a-many a man I have seen in my day,
Who lived just to labor his whole life away.
Like a fiend with his dope and a drunkard his wine,
A man will have lust for the lure of the mines.

I hope when I'm gone and the ages shall roll,
My body will blacken and turn into coal.
Then I'll look from the door of my heavenly home,
And pity the miner a-diggin' my bones.

The midnight, the morning, or the middle of day,
Is the same to the miner who labors away.
Where the demons of death often come by surprise,
One fall of the slate and you're buried alive.

Merle Travis; Aug 8, 1946

My band, The Empty Mirror is recording our first album this summer. It's largely influenced by my Peak Oil outlook. There's a song called "Peak of the Arc", for example, which is sort of about a Wall Street guy working overtime in his office at night to keep his head above water, while being unable to fight the historical economic trend. Sacrificing himself to the merciless god of the economy.

Here are the lyrics to another song, "Shoestring Century", which shows the bitterness and regret felt by people in a post-economic collapse scenario:

Shoestring Century

Gravel in the street
Shoestring century of abandoned pride
Remember how we laughed?
Remember how the world watched as Congress cried?

The other day, a motorcade
Kicked it's dust on my dead lawn

He read it to his son
But now the history book is yellow, done
Acid won
He'd read it from his mind
But it never seems to be the right time
Past his prime

You want to play that old game
And shake my hand with my pride?
You want to stay?
We say, "no"
We say, "no"
We say ride your ruckus
Ride your ruckus home
We say ride your promise
Ride your promise home
We say, "no"

Our site is at www.myspace.com/theemptymirror.

I have a solo demo of the above song up at www.myspace.com/grantvaldeshuling. Hopefully you'll all be hearing more of my band.

Also from the "Repo Man" Soundtrack:

"Let's Have A War"
by Fear:

There's so many of us,
So many of us,
So many, there's so many, there's so many

Let's have a war,
So you can go and die,
Let's have a war,
We could all use the money,
Let's have a war,
We need the space,
Let's have a war,
Clean out this place

It already started in the city,
Suburbia will be just as easy

Let's have a war,
Jack up the Dow Jones,
Let's have a war,
It can start in New Jersey,
Let's have a war,
Blame it on the middle-class,
Let's have a war,
We're like rats in a cage

It already started in the city,
Suburbia will be just as easy

Let's have a war,
Sell the rights to the networks,
Let's have a war,
Let our wallets get fat like last time,
Let's have a war,
Give guns to the queers,
Let's have a war,
The enemy's within

It already started in the city,
Suburbia will be just as easy!!!

As long as we are retreading old topics, how about this one? An oldie but goodie from about 50 years ago, Marge Reaburn singing "I'm Available" starts out:

dooweedoo wedoowedoo dooweedoo wedoowedooo
well I'm available for Saturday night
I'm available to hold you tight etc.

she sings so sweetly about how agreeable she is. But look at the scat intro. It isn't scat. It's "do we do it? oh yeah we do!" heh heh

And here's an old gem from the Beatles, "Girl":

She's the kind of girl
who puts you down when friends are there you feel a fool
When you say she's looking good
She acts as if its understood she's cool cool cool ah girl
girl! tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit-tit girl-url!

A Lennon/McCartney joke that got past all the censors. heh heh again.!

What, you folks don't find it interesting how you are being played? It's everywhere, that's why I got rid of my TV.
