man's best friend

Postby smiley » Tue 17 May 2005, 16:27:53

I was walking home today from work. I took the scenic route via a park when I heard a scream. From the corner of my eye I saw a dog getting hit pretty hard by a car. The dog limped to the side of the road and started whining. We rushed to the scene to attend to the dog and to calm the kids which owned it.

I still cannot wrap my head around what happened next. The owner of the car, a girl about 25 years old, got out of her car. She looked pretty distressed. She rushed to the front of her car to inspect the damage to the front spoiler. When see saw that it was only scratches and dents she appeared to calm down. Next she walked to the passenger side of the car to collect the insurance papers from the glove compartment. Then she started making some calls.

She never asked whether the dog was alright or even looked at it. I actually don't like dogs, but how can you ignore an animal in pain. It makes me wonder. What if she had run over a kid, would she inspect the car first?

Up to now I never realized how important cars are for some people. Man's best friend apparently has four wheels and goes by the name of Clio.

It makes me wonder. At what point will people abandon the car? What kind of sacrifices are they willing to make? Because at one point we will have to make choices. The choice between food for the third world, or biofuels for our car. The choice between food for our cattle or biofuels for our cars.

I'm afraid that I just have gotten the answer.

Ever see Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome? Once there is no more gas, people will hitch draft animals to their cars. Once the wheels fall off, people will use them as housing. They will only give up their cars once they have rusted to the point of no longer being recognizable as such.

Many people simply do not care if the whole world turns to dust and evrything in it dies just so long as they can continue to use their car. When they die they will all go to hell and be forced to use public transport for all eternity.

Talk about a strawman argument!

If you really want to make this leap of logic stick, try http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4537001.stm

If we really care about the dog, shouldn't we blame the owners for letting it run in the road?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')f we really care about the dog, shouldn't we blame the owners for letting it run in the road?
Talk about completely missing the point!

It's the driver's total lack of compassion that's the point, her worrying over her car and the insurance, rather than the dog and its owners.

Even if we assume the owners were negligent and "let" the dog run into the street, that doesn't excuse this:

So, if you run over an animal, but are compassionate about it, that is OK?

No, again that's missing the point. This was an accident. Nobody intended for it to happen. An accident. Despite that, the owner of the car cared more about the hunk of metal than the living creature she accidentally hit. It's not ok to hit an animal with your car, it's not her fault, but her total and utter lack of compassion or decency is a problem. It's not ok to care more about your car than the dog you accidentally hit with it.

Same thing happened to my friends horse. She was out riding on the roads (a perfectly legal activity) when an old lady came around the corner too fast and hit the animal, knocking my friend off onto the road. The old lady just jumped out and shouted at my friend (who broke her shoulder in the fall) while the horse lay on the road with it's hind leg hanging off. Needless to say, the horse had to be shot there and then. The family were devastated. And still the woman bitched about her car.
We've tried nothin' and we're all out of ideas.

Samething happen in Malaysia too.
In one neighbourhood, there are 79 fatal accidents . Most of the victims are kids. So you can imagine the neighbourhood besides the highway don't have any teenagers or young people around.

The last fatal accident , they use just burn and burn. 400 villagers staged protest on the highway. They burnt down the trailer. Normally only close relatives have revenge on the car or car driver. It is common in Malaysia to burn the car that kill someone.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')eedless to say, the horse had to be shot there and then. The family were devastated. And still the woman bitched about her car.

You shot your horse on the spot without even consulting a vet to see if it could be saved? There are some good treatments for horses these days, and even prosthetic limbs.

Maybe you didn't read that the horses leg was hanging off? Sometimes the humane thing to do is put an animal out of it's misery.

I guess people around here are different. A woman pulled up to my house frantic because she hit a dog (my neighbors), she was crying and apologizing, but didn't stop at the dog because she had young children with her. The dog was ok, just smacked her hip and limped a few days. I think the woman was more shaken than the dog.

I once saw a dog get hit at night by a blameless driver, the owner of the dog attacked the driver punching him profusely.

it was sickening to see. i wanted to shoot the fuggin dog just to piss off the owner who let him run free in the street and then had the audacity to attack a driver w/o even listening to a word they guy had to say...just ran up and went off like a psycho.

How many of y'all will try that, I wonder.

So, while it's a shame when creatures die without need, I don't see why people put dogs in particular on a pedestal. People really, really love their dogs. I think it's a sad sign of a decadent empire when our pets get better care than our poor, let alone the poor in other parts of the world.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')an I Train My Dog To Put It On Himself?

No, the dog will require human intervention each time he wishes to put on or take off a condom.

What About Female Condoms for Bitches?

We recognize that birth control is the responsibility of both partners, and we are currently working on a prototype of a condom for female dogs. However, we don't expect it to reach the market until 2007.

What About Loss of Sensation?

Just like with human condoms, the dog may experience a slight loss of sensation. However, the condoms are made of a very thin latex which should transmit heat well, a key factor in creating a lifelike feel. We are also experimenting with new scents, which work like a "doggy Viagra", providing further sensory stimula

Oh man that is too funny!

BTW Sklup I'm with you.

For example, let's just say I never paid money to a vet to put a dog "down" when .45 is .25 cents a round.

Having spent his entire life dining upon the corpses of other living things, it is only proper that The Turtle eventually provide a feast for other living beings in return.

And who better to eat one's face than one's Best Friend? :)
