My point is that the economy can very well go bust in the new location, and then you find yourself alone there with *no* extended family network.
Granted, in the past it has been wise for folks to get the heck out of states like Michigan, Ohio, etc., and just never look back. But we're approaching a stage where there will be no boom state to move to. Look at Las Vegas.. once the mecca for jobs, now you have people begging to work at burger joints.
Probably some better advice for unemployed is give it some time.. if the industry you've always worked in remains difficult, you may have to bite the bullet and change to a field like healthcare.
