$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('chargrove', 'I')t's important to have your intentions set up firmly in your mind before you start dosing on whatever you're going to take. The people who lose control on mind-altering drugs often do so because either A) they don't know enough about what they're taking to know what they're in for and to deal with its ebbs and flows, and/or B) they didn't reinforce their intentions beforehand, so once things get going strong they don't understand what they're doing or why (this is particularly an issue with psychedelics).
You can have a lot of fun and go through a lot of therapeutic introspection on a variety of chemicals, including weed (i put weed and psychedelic entheogens/entactogens in the positive category, and alcohol/opiates/cocaine/etc in a negative category which should be avoided). But the positive chemicals will only be positive in this way if you understand them and respect them going in (in fact, some stronger psychedelics like salvia divinorum and ayahuasca absolutely demand your respect, and you have no choice in the matter; people who've taken these will know what i'm talking about).
my friend, you are
SO right.
especially when talking about the more powerful plant-psychedellics.
people who think psilocybin mushrooms are just a laugh, a bit of fun, well, i feel sad for them because:
1) they might really do themselves (and others) some serious harm
2) they are missing out on the extremely valuable knowledge these plants can give us
remember, too much of ANY GOOD THING will be BAD.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('some_guy282', 'A')s far as people using drugs "responsibly", I know it can happen. There are people capable of using drugs (weed and other more hard core stuff) and controlling their lives entirely. If you're one of these people, more power to you. But as far as trying to put most (or even many) drug users in this category... give me a break. I think people who are responsible enough to think about and control the way they use drugs wouldn't be using drugs in the first place. Of course there are always exceptions.
you are not making sense, just contradicting yourself.
a lot of people are perfectly capable of seeing that certain substances are very powerful and must be respected, and are mature enough to use these substances sensibly.
addictive behaviour is a serious problem for post-industrial societies and applies to a lot of things apart from mind-altering substances.
btw, here is my list of the most "abused" internally taken mind-altering substances:
1. refined sugar/HFCS
2. nicotine
3. caffine
4. distilled alcohol
5. brewed alcohol
6. fermented alcohol
7. selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs--Prozac, etc.)
6. prescribed and ilicit amphetimines (ritalin, etc.)
9. THC
10. barbiturates (sleeping pills)
is a good place to start.
