There are peaks in the NW that Ive done that are more difficult from what Ive heard. Mt Jefferson and Mt Hood are more brutal so they say. Not sure about that tho. Good luck. I did Hood with zero gear on the day the weather turned to winter. White out. Just Cabelas hunting boots. Brutal and will not do that again. Crampons and ice axe make it much more pleasant.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lorenzo', 'I') agree that the pull of alpinism and the desire to summit the mountain is inherently an egoistical affair.

I don't get it, Everest is so small that Nepal can afford to close all entries? And can afford to pay his guards enough so they'll skip on a few k in bribes?

The Northeast ridge is in Tibet, China. Nepal has no authority here.

Friends, it's Aconcagua-time!

Anyone climbed that mountain?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')econdly, please don't think that I'm just pulling $75k out of my pocket like that. I've been saving for this for many years. Some people buy a bigger house, or a second car, I didn't. I saved to buy a ticket to Everest.

I went to Nepal in 2004, it's one of the cheapest countries on earth. The visa from the Indian border cost me 15 dollars and I spent an average of 10 dollars a day for the 2 weeks I was there. But if you can spend 75 thousand dollars in Nepal, I salute you. Make sure to pay it all in advance.

Well, sadly all that money goes straight into the pockets of the Nepali government, because you pay for climing permits.

The money we spend on sherpas and local food/hotels is the only money that goes to Nepalis.

We hope the Nepali government spends the big money we hand them for the permit, well.

Good luck! It sounds like a great adventure.

But this would be cheaper, and infinitely more challenging:

Mm, Cerro Torre - death can be cheap indeed.

But it's not like I'm entirely tired of my life or anything, which is why I stick to a slightly less deadly mountain. :)
