:!:

It's also virtually impossible to buy long dated out of the money CL calls - for example 2008-2012. They are listed in every brokerage, but there's either no liquidity (questionable since some have 10,000 Open interest) or insiders are snapping them up (much more likely :( ). Like others here I've popped a few thousands here and there hoping for a big strike. I bought June 2007 82 calls today.

Just never bet the grocery money. :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Jellric', 'I')s there a oil futures options primer available?

Right now I am playing oil by trading in stock options on oil companies. One drawback is there is no 1-to-1 relationship between the oil price and the underlying stock. I would like to know how oil futures options compare to stock options. It sounds like the principle is the same, but I would like to know more.

For $500 you can open an account with xpresstrade. That will get you started understanding quotes etc. and you can see what's out there. Every time I call them they have very helpful staff too. They have answered all of my questions fully. I'm just getting started too. I got the confidence to trade them mostly by reading posts here. There's a ton of stuff if you browse the forums.

Hi,

What brokerages are all of you using? I have most of my money at Vanguard and they do not allow oil options in their brokerage accounts.

Just curious.

If by "oil options" you mean options on the commodity futures, a stock broker like Vanguard isn't going to have them. You have to go to an actual commodities broker, like Xpresstrade or Man Financial.

Based on your current knowledge level, you should look into getting stock options trading experience before doing commodity futures options.
