He did an excellent job of smacking newbie cornucopians down no matter what miracle they figured they had found. Now I'm forced to just ignore them.

Bwhahahahahahahahah!!!

Screw Monte and his lieing ways.

My most memorable quote from that loser:

RIP Monte - and if you do read this....

I miss Monte.

He is one of the most intellectual and thoughtful of the regular "PeakOil" posters. We didn't always agree, but I was always impressed by the scope of Monte's ideas and the cogent philosphy that underpinned them. 8)

Everybody deserves a break... except me of course.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Yeah I don't miss him. I got really tired of him pointing out how you would get a 2 week ban if you criticized him.

Yeah - not only did I get banned here (by Monte), but the fool banned me at sustainableaz.org - AND I NEVER POSTED ANYTHING TO THAT SITE.

He just went mad...

That's the trick with the topics we discuss here - if you slip too far down the rabbit hole without a popcorn trail behind you...you lose sight of reality...

Monte lost his mind.

Nonsense. I've criticized him a lot and never been banned.

Actually Ludi I found that he got quite testy and started insinuating just that when non-acolytes dared question his pontifications... He'd phrase it as a COC violation of course but I felt that his interpretation of those was rather _subjective_ shall we say...

Just my personal opinion...

But now who's gonna smack down noobs?

He's probably out doing real things in the Big Blue Room (tm) and once in a while lurking and laughing at the asses in here.

Go, Monte!

That's just it - Monte thought it was his job to smack down noobs and anyone that strayed from "his" word.

It was not his job. Noobs will get tired of being smacked down by the depth of knowledge the collective PO.com membership has...not just Monte. Or they won't get tired and will provide entertainment for the masses here.

Monte was all about Monte...simple as that.

He will soon be forgotten.

Monte screwed up with the 'die-off' sketch. If you look at village India, or several African states, they don't use a lot of oil to support a high population density. The little they DO have, they use very carefully.

Spread that level of use across the First World and no-one has a 'die-off' problem for a very long time yet - IF we have the collective balls to share resources.

Monte couldn't make that mental leap - not many of us can - but as 'forum leader' he should have made more effort to push the debate forward - towards more humanitarian goals.

Just saying my bit (grin).

I think Monte was predominantly an environmentalist, and filtered reality through those sentiments. I agreed with most of what he said, but didnt like it when he equated questioning "the science" with being a half wit.

I miss Monte Quest. I got a guy doing a schpeel at my University about "Energy Problems of the 21st Century and how business is coping/evolving" I want to prepare a HUGE lineup of questions for the guy just to make sure he never smiles/experiences a happy thought ever again but without Montequest I dont think this dreamboat idea will ever come true. Help me Monte...help me.

He's a nature messenger. He "sees" the trees, biodiversities and ecosystem acknowledges the oncoming disasters. I don't consider any of his guessing as predictions or alike.

I think that he sees the complexities of simplicity and efficient on the negative side that can have consequence. Especially when it comes to plants and animals. IMHO.
