$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WildRose', 'P')MS, maybe the meeting isn't what you think it is at all.

A possibility?
It turned out to be very minor. I'd covered a "learning center." Seems the director didn't think I was "engaged" enough to interaction with the students and so registered a complaint. These "learning centers" are where students who fell through the cracks go. The other teachers there just keep tabs on their bookwork. They don't do much else. None of them do any instruction or pedagogy. They told me not to bother with the bookwork as the teacher would take care of it when he came back. The district personnel director was completely understanding. No problem.

Glad to hear it, PMS.

This Guy is amazing PMS!

A Lebanese Australian who spent years in northern India studying esoteric mathematics; Jain's work is astounding; especially in it's ability to inspire creative interest in mathematics.

He spent years trying to get into the state system in Australia before being taken on by ,of all people, the Catholic Education system!

Damn sorry parents. They expect teachers to be everything...to teach, to mentor, to comfort, to displine. To do their parenting jobs because they are too lazy or too wrapped up in their own lives to nurture their own children

But when Jr. gets out of line or can't compete........its always someone elses fault. Typical for our modern society. Three types of kids. 1. Those who can learn in any environment. (Naturally smart) 2. Those who can't learn in any environment. (Born Stupid) 3. The kids who need a competant teacher and a quite calm environment to be able to learn. ( Most of the population.) Lots of programs and money spent on groups 1 & 2. Group 3 seems to fall through the cracks.......unless they have a great teacher.

Sadly, teachers spend most of their time dealing with group 2 thanks to sorry parents and scared, liabilty averse, school boards....who won't kick their sorry butts out of school.

Hang in there PMS.
Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well.

It's very strange sometimes. If that learning center director saw me walking around and looking over the student's shoulders at their work it would have been fine. As I said, the regular teachers there don't do that. It's all so subjective. I'm surprised I've lasted all these years. Kafka couldn't have written a more absurd system or weirder people than that learning center director. A few years back I covered a special ed class. It's hard to describe how unfocused the kids were. The teacher was on campus going through these absurd meetings, you know "no child left behind" and all that. She came in and saw that I wasn't trying to be Jaime Escalante in one day with a bunch of disinterested kids and wrote a complaint to the office. The assistant principal called me in after school. I could see it in his face that he regarded that teacher as a loon. He asked me a few questions and then no complaint was sent to the district office. It's all like a crap shoot. Last year I covered an advanced group of intelligent kids for a week of chemistry. That was grand. Lecture to students who actually pay attention then walk around to give help. Most times it's just fuggit. Take roll and hand out worksheets. I really don't believe in universal education or "no child left behind." Some are worth the social effort and cost of educating them. Others should find work that suits them. If peak oil isn't doom but just scaled back living standards, that's what will happen, I'm sure.

I dont know if any of us knows exactly what is going to happen when it really gets bad. Its not even bad now which is a bit disconcerting. But yes i am with you on that. We can not save everyone. Thats going to be our downfall. Trying to save everyone when its a sunami of people that need to be saved. Its illogical. Mentally ill. and just plain stupid. There is no way to save all the extras. We really have a major situation on our hands. Oil has been masking it for so long. I do not know when the situation will be truly and fully revealed....

It was noted by some 19th century scholar that the North was very intent on the education of all their children while the South was not. That's a fine thing, in principle. It's become a cornerstone of American policy. But it isn't working out right anymore.
