The American Embassy in Cairo helped a young dissident attend a US-sponsored summit for activists in New York, while working to keep his identity secret from Egyptian state police.

On his return to Cairo in December 2008, the activist told US diplomats that an alliance of opposition groups had drawn up a plan to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak and install a democratic government in 2011.
He has already been arrested by Egyptian security in connection with the demonstrations and his identity is being protected by The Daily Telegraph.

The crisis in Egypt follows the toppling of Tunisian president Zine al-Abedine Ben Ali, who fled the country after widespread protests forced him from office.

If the US has its sticky fingers supporting (whoever) it should come as no suprise. The only requirement the US has is that in the end, the new leaders pledge there alliegence to the american empire. Other then than, if a new leader comes along, they have a free hand to do whatever they like. The US will happily jetison any allied(leader) if they come to be seen as a liability. There is no requirement for US allies to be in any way honest, fair, democratic etc, only that they promise to maintain the status-quo.

In the context of PEAK OIL the instability of the whole middle east should make us all concerned about the supply of oil to the world.

All oil importing nations will be impacted by rising prices and reduced supplies if the instability spreads to other middle east countries.

The real question is will the unrest spread to the oil producing nations of the gulf?

We may need to transition to alternative energy sources sooner than we think.
If the Saudi government were toppled what would the world oil supply look like?

Oil consuming nations have put too many of their eggs in the OPEC basket.

We need to diversify our energy sources.

Wind, solar, geothermal, wave energy and second generation biofuels can all be produced locally with local labor.

It really doesn’t matter who is in charge of the oil producing counries – human greed knows no bounds and they will continue to sell oil to the highest bidder.

Let us just do what we can to help the democratic and secular forces for the sake of their people as well as our oil supply.

Too many revolutions by good people have been stolen by political and religious fundamentalist.

Sorry, this simply is NOT correct.
