Summary: No analysis by Trump’s foes shows the danger he poses so clearly as his own speeches. But we have lost the habit of listening to our leaders, instead relying on trusted tribal voices to filter and mold their words into pleasing poems. See Trump’s statement about Iran – and fear for America’s future.
Bill Bonner writes about finance at The Daily Reckoning and is a founder of The Agora (see this article about it). He is a doomster and perma-bear, but has an interesting perspective on our situation. See these terrifying words from his column “Corrections” in March 2001…
“Men do stupid things regularly and mad things occasionally. And sometimes, the impulse to self-destruction is so overwhelming it overtakes an entire nation. …The best a person can hope for when he goes mad is that he runs into a brick wall quickly …before he has a chance to build up speed. That is why success, in war and investing, is often a greater menace than failure. …
“People seem to make such obvious and moronic errors that it seems as if they were driven to it by some instinct of self-destruction — like lemmings periodically exterminating themselves in a march off the cliffs. What’s more, this diabolical instinct seems to report for duty at the very moment when the future seems the brightest — that is, when it is most needed! Just when men are most proud, most confident, most expansive in their ambitions and hopes …that is when they make the most lunkheaded judgments.”
See the ignorance, hubris, and belligerence in the President Trump’s January Statement by the President on the Iran Nuclear Deal. It gives his justification for the US to attack Iran with every tool short of (so far) force. This might be Peak America.
“It {Iran} props up the murderous regime of Bashar al Assad, and has helped him slaughter his own people. …Within Iran, the Supreme Leader and his Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps use mass arrests and torture to oppress and silence Iran’s people. …”Iran’s ruling elite has let their citizens go hungry while enriching themselves by stealing Iran’s national wealth.”
That’s an incredible statement given the number of murderous regimes the US has installed and supported during its history. Look at Wikipedia’s list of nations using Death Squads. See how many are allies – or regimes installed by America. And so many kleptocratic rulers! Plus those who did all of the above, such as America’s long ally – President Marcos of the Philippines.
“The regime’s destructive missiles threaten neighboring countries and international shipping.”
The number of instances is beyond count in which America has threatened other nations with military force. Also, is Killing Iranian Nuclear Scientists Terrorism? (Spoiler: yes.)
“{W}e are calling on all nations to lend similar support to the Iranian people, who are suffering under a regime that is stifling basic freedoms and denying its citizens the opportunity to build better lives for their families – an opportunity that is every human being’s God-given right.”
We are working to punish Iran, even overthrow its government, for the Iranian people. Without asking if they want help from foreign infidels. Infidels whose CIA in 1953 overthrew their democratically elected government (Operation Ajax) to prevent it nationalizing Iran’s oil reserves. The CIA installed the Shah, who gave favorable treatment to western oil companies and whose secret police (SAVAK) crushed all opposition. Even in exile – leaving much of his wealth behind – he was one of the richest men in the world.
If the people of Iran did consider asking us to overthrow their government, the people of Afghanistan and Libya would scream “don’t!” We (and our allies) helped overthrow the rich, secular, stable Libyan regime — plugging it into chaos (making Islamic fundamentalists powerful) – to boost the profits of western oil companies. The CIA’s Operation Cyclone gave a black eye to the Soviet Union — and helped plunge Afghanistan into civil war from which it has not recovered (see how the lives of Afghanistan’s women have changed with our “help” (much as the women in Iraq and Libya have changed) – a reverse liberation back into oppression.
If Iran’s people decided they did want our help, they might stop when reminded of Trump’s frequently stated belief that we should have stolen Iraq’s oil as payment for our “help” (wrecking so much of their nation).
Only a President ignorant of our history could pose as a liberator of the Iranian people. Only a people ignorant of their history would treat such a statement with anything but ridicule.
“Those who, for whatever reason, choose not to work with us will be siding with the Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions, and against the people of Iran and the peaceful nations of the world.”
Trump declares himself the voice of the world – or perhaps King of the World. Without bothering with consent of the governed.

It is our foreign policy. It need not be delusional. It need not take America off a cliff. Our only hope lies in our hands, as it should.

Below: a collection of comments on coming US oil shortages;
by
kxviswan
I am getting massive crude draws in the next 3 months
I am calculating 64 MM crude draw in the next 3 months vs. STEO number of 4.5 MM barrels.
I used 17.3 MBD for refinery run rate, export 1.7 MBD, import 7.8 MBD and US production of 10.5 MBD as average for the next 3 months, April refinery run rate will be below 17.3 but June will compensate.
The average weekly draw works out to 4.9 MM barrels.
(respond)
Re: I am getting massive crude draws in the next 3 months
You are well more bullish than even I am.
I would expect such draws to occur by the end of August rather than end of June.
I would expect imports to rise to 8.0-8.5 mm bpd when we break down 400 mm bbl mark unless VZ collapses. With the help of Canada, Iraq and others at the expense of Europe/Asia.
If you are right, US crude stocks would drop to 360 mm bbl by the end of June (my target – by the end of August) that would match with the mid point of 2014.
My Milestones are 411, 400, 380, 360 mm bbl.
The first three – 80%+ odds, 360 mm bbl is less than 50% odds.
If you are right with 360mm bbl, why would WTI be lower than in 2014?
$100???
Would be happy to see it.
Best of luck,
romm

Re: I am getting massive crude draws in the next 3 months
Last year imports were 8.13, 8.4 and 8 MM barrels/day for April, May and June.
Saudi contribution was 1.15, 1.1 and 1.02 MM barrels/day in these months. Expect these numbers to be 300-500K/day less. Add to this Venezuela that averaged more than 700K/day last year.
I do not see imports increasing over 7.8 MBD.
Re: I am getting massive crude draws in the next 3 months
I think you are being too conservative.
Here is why:
Energy Aspects said we drew 40 million b/d in Q1 2018:
” Had we said back in November 2017 that US petroleum inventories would not only fail to build in Q1 18 but instead draw by some 40 mb”
https://www.energyaspects.com/publications/search/macro-energy
Now if Q2 demand rises by 1 million b/d per rdesroch/IEA below, then see my conclusion at the bottom of this post:
” IEA Shocking Demand Increase! 2.4 Million bpd from Q1 to Q4 2018
I haven’t look at the yearly demand curve for quite some time, and the change in shape of the curve shocked me. In the past Q2 was the low point of the year, and was the shoulder season. All that has changed when I looked at the IEA estimates for 2018 from March report.
Q1 2018 demand is estimated to be 98 Mbpd
Q2 demand jumps by 1 MILLION a day!
Q3 jumps another 700 kbpd!
Q4 adds another 700 kbpd
From Q1 to Q4 demand jumps by 2.4 MILLION per day.

? Israel and Saudi Arabia attack Iran.. Just because…
? Iran, forced to respond, knocks out Saudi export
choke points with ‘conventional’ weapons.
? Israel, feeling threatened? Launches nukes at
Iran.
? Fade to Black.

Trump Blamed Putin And Iran After Dozens Were Reportedly Killed In Syria Chemical Attack
Activists and rescue workers said as many as 70 people suffocated to death Saturday after a barrel bomb containing a chemical agent hit a shelter in a rebel-held town in Syria.

Medics, activists, and rescue workers in Syria said dozens of people were killed and hundreds of others injured in a suspected chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held town near Damascus on Saturday — allegations the Syrian government has denied.
At least 70 people have been killed so far in the attack in Douma, the Union of Medical Relief Organizations, an American charity that works with Syrian hospitals, told the BBC.
Images circulating on social media showed the lifeless bodies of men, women, and children, including infants, foaming at the mouth — a telltale sign of a gas attack. The footage could not be independently confirmed.
The UN Security Council will convene for an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the alleged attack. “The Security Council has to come together and demand immediate access for first responders, support an independent investigation into what happened, and hold accountable those responsible for this atrocious act,” said US Ambassador Nikki Haley.
President Donald Trump, who last year launched a missile attack against the Syrian regime after a chemical attack in the northern town of Khan Sheikhoun, placed blame for this weekend’s attack at the feet of Russia and Iran — criticizing Vladimir Putin by name.
“Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria,” he tweeted Sunday. “Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world. President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad.”
He warned there would be a “big price” to pay.

Republican Senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain urged the president to follow up on the tweet with military action.
“If it becomes a tweet without meaning, then he has hurt himself in North Korea. If he doesn’t follow through and live up to that tweet, he’s going to look weak in the eyes of Russia and Iran,” he told ABC’s This Week program. “So this is a defining moment, Mr. President. You need to follow through with that tweet.”
McCain also signaled he believed President Trump publicly pushing this week for US troops to soon withdraw from Syria, where they have been fighting ISIS, had contributed to the attack.
“Bashar Assad and his Russian and Iranian backers have heard him, and emboldened by American inaction, Assad has reportedly launched another chemical attack,” he said.

A tweet by the pro-opposition Ghouta Media Centre, which contained several graphic images, said that 75 people had been killed in the attack and that there were 1,000 more cases of suffocation.
In a now-deleted tweet, the White Helmets, a volunteer rescue group formally known as Syria Civil Defence, put the death toll at 150. The group later said at least 40 people suffocated to death after a helicopter dropped a barrel bomb containing a chemical agent on Douma, a town in the Damascus suburbs known as Eastern Ghouta.
Entire families died while hiding in cellars, trying to seek shelter from air raids and barrel bombs, the group said on Twitter.
The reports have not been independently confirmed.
Other relief organizations and watchdog groups, including the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Syrian American Medical Society, also reported the attack, though the number of victims killed has varied.
Rami Abdulrahman, the director of the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told Reuters he could not confirm if chemical weapons had been used.

The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency, or SANA, rejected the claim that chemical agents were used in Saturday’s attack.
A US State Department spokesperson called the reports “horrifying,” and said in a statement that Russia should be blamed if chemicals were indeed used in an attack on civilians.
“Reports from a number of contacts and medical personnel on the ground indicate a potentially high number of casualties, including among families hiding in shelters,” the spokesperson, Heather Nauert, said. “These reports, if confirmed, are horrifying and demand an immediate response by the international community.”
British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson also called the reports “deeply disturbing.”
“An urgent investigation is needed and the international community must respond,” said a spokesperson for the British Foreign Office. “We call on the Assad regime and its backers, Russia and Iran, to stop the violence against innocent civilians.”
On Sunday, Moscow angrily denied that the Syrian regime had used chemical weapons in Eastern Ghouta and said it would be able to provide proof.
News agencies reported that Russian Maj. Gen. Yuri Yevtushenko said: “We firmly deny this information. We are ready, once Douma is freed from militants, to immediately send Russian specialists in radiation, chemical, and biological defense to collect data that will confirm these claims are fabricated.”
On Sunday, the Syrian state broadcaster al-Ikhbariya reported that rebels in Douma had contacted the Syrian regime in the hope of restarting negotiations, which collapsed on Friday. The channel also said the government had demanded that the rebels release prisoners and cease shelling Damascus before any talks could start. The government began two-hour ceasefire began Sunday afternoon.
Despite repeated accusations, however, the Syrian government denies that it has ever used chemical weapons in the country’s seven-year civil war.
President Trump also mocked his predecessor, Barack Obama, for not taking military action against Syria after earlier chemical attacks.
If President Obama had crossed his stated Red Line In The Sand, the Syrian disaster would have ended long ago! Animal Assad would have been history!

However, in 2013 Trump repeatedly urged Obama via Twitter not to attack Syria after the regime used sarin gas and other chemical weapons.
“The only reason President Obama wants to attack Syria is to save face over his very dumb RED LINE statement,” he tweeted in September 2013. “Do NOT attack Syria, fix U.S.A.”

Oh-la-la, another nail into the coffin of the empire:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5591225/Hungary-set-elect-PM-Viktor-Orban-consecutive-term.html
“Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has hailed an ‘extraordinary victory’ after his party was projected to win a landslide victory in elections.
With almost 98 percent of votes counted, Orban’s Fidesz party has won 48.81 per cent of the vote, the National Election Office (NVI) said, surpassing even the expectations of many within Fidesz.
This is expected to translate to 134 seats in parliament.
Nationalist party Jobbik is predicted to 27 seats, the election office’s website said, while the socialist party was expected to win 20 seats”
The 2nd party is even more rightwing.lol

Interestingly, Orban does not want to leave or blow up the EU, but instead take it over. Berlusconi same story. And they are both pro-Putin

It isn’t Trump’s foreign policy. It’s the same US foreign policy that the world has witnessed for the last 70 years, at least, dictated by the same group of people.
Like I’ve been saying here for over four years now, the destabilization of Iran has always been their ultimate goal.

I entirely concur with this line of reasoning. I have been saying something similar ever since Trump assumed the presidency and his political party assumed control of the legislative and judicial branches. Since then, Trump and his Republican enablers have been working furiously to destroy the natural world. Even at this site, where people should know better, Trump et al are aggressively defended by a small army of sycophants.
Either the Republicon’s have a death wish or they have a below ground/off planet exit plan when the Earth begins to go Venus.

I guess that means you believe in hell? Unfortunately, I don’t. The sad truth is that most evil and selfish people mostly get away with screwing others at will. To become very rich and powerful in this world it helps to be sociopathic and narcissistic. Trump and Hillary are both typical examples of this.

The last week has seen isis and violent sunni muslim extremists pushed out of the area of eastern Damascus (eastern ghouta) to the consternation of Israel (and Linsey Graham) Trump announced quite rightly that he could not give a fuck. Why? Obama tried to get rid of Erdogan, Russia saved his ass, he knows it, Turkey is taking delivery of the s400 missile system (you need Russians to operate it). Americans are fighting Turkey in Syria cause they promised too much again to the Kurds. Remember that it was the Kurds who stopped isis with CAG and serious airpower. So America has only three choices, 1 support the Kurds in fighting a nato ally, 2 turn on the Kurds and help isis/jihadis/turkey, 3 invade Syria using a conventional army like the invasion of Iraq of yet another country that never attacked America.
Like with the suspected poisoning of Skripal in the UK, real/not real, staged/not staged, the US has no good alternatives and no real strategic interests in Syria, however many interests wish to keep the US fighting in Syria. Fact is this is not 1900, fighting for coal ports or 100 years worth of easy oil is not an option, the US risks fighting strategy games for worthless gains. Saudi Arabia is currently starving millions of people in Yemen, Linsey Grahams moral compass is seriously off centre, Trump is not in control, its likely he got everything he wanted in Nov 2016 (one in Obamas eye) and stopped caring soon after, he probobly just reads what he’s told to read and plays golf like the other old retired men.

Well, Davy, there’s only ONE of the TWO political parties that have passed legislation to a sell-off our parks and protected areas. Only on of the two political parties has legislation before congress to eliminate the highly successful Endangered Species Act. Only one of the two parties is rolling back decades of important environmental safeguards. Only one of the two parties passed legislation that allows chemical companies to introduce new compounds into the environment without safety trials. And the list goes on.
These are indisputable and specific facts. If you have EVIDENCE to the contrary, then show me.

Don Juan-
No, I don’t know if hell exists. I do know while the effects of a person’s behaviors are not necessarily apparent right away; nevertheless, they show up eventually.
In Hinduism, karma intrinsically is linked to the concept of getting back what one puts forward. The bible teaches whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
All major religions address this issue for the reason that experience has demonstrated this to be true.

Only ONE of the TWO political parties supports the removal of endangered status for nearly 300 critically endangered species in order to help their development supporters.
Trump eliminated fuel efficiency standards established by the Obama administration.
Massive cuts to climate and clean energy programs.
Trump loosened regulations on toxic air pollution.
Trump prohibits the use of climate change wordage in all government publications.
In a plan that is a direct attack on the Indian Nations, Trump announced that he would reduce the 1.35-million acre Bears Ears National Monument, created by President Barack Obama in late 2016, by 85 percent. The president also said he would cut the 1.88-million acre Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, designated by President Bill Clinton in 1996, nearly in half.

Der, BOTH so called ‘parties’ are bent on leveling the playing field in the Us. Neither one really runs America. Big corporations and big banks do. Your vote is nothing. Distraction while the tax needle in your arm is bleeding you dry.
It’s ALL about money and power, not logic and morality. Resources are to be exploited for profit. You can thank Capitalism for that. Capitalism encourages greed. Allows a few to amass unearned wealth at the expense of fools.
That is why I am anxious for the collapse that will end the plundering and murder of the ecosystem by the West and especially the Us. I cannot wait to wake up some morning and the DOW is at 400 and the Us is in panic. Bring it on!

“How appropriate they are now in Amerika 2018. We have finally become a damaged empire due to a mega variety of reasons. Foremost is the delusion of far too many of us that we a nation victimized by forces of terror outside of our influence. Well, anyone who takes the time to turn away from the narcotics of electronic gadgetry, 24 hour sports, sexual delights, addictive cigarettes, alcohol and other drugs of preference, along with mainstream media’s embedded- with- empire phony news, would see that (sadly) our nation is the role model for terrorism. As we float aimlessly into the narrow straights of both national and individual economic turmoil (even bankruptcy) the ‘movers and shakers’ of this empire laugh all the way from their well secured gated communities to their banks and investment houses.
Can this all not be a dream, contrary to what most Eastern philosophies teach? After all, could George Orwell have written a better story with a Reality Television star becoming president? As with those lemmings who thought the Gordon Gecko character in Oliver Stone‘s film Wall Street was sacrosanct in his belief that ‘Greed is good’, so too those with but ‘A pot to piss in’ followed almost religiously a billionaire so called populist demagogue who peddled the same crap. He did not ‘drain the swamp’, rather filling it with more super rich ‘Greed is good’ muck. Yet, it only shows how much our Amerikan populace can continue to take from an enema bag overloaded with…
We who love the country we grew up in, and see through this con job, signed off by the two halves of our Two Party political scam, have a civic duty to stand up and say ‘NO MORE!’ One afternoon a few short years ago, as my 85 year-old peace activist friend John and I stood outside our library holding signs to protest this Military Industrial Empire, a lady from Germany came up to us. She complimented us on our activism and made a cogent point:
“You Americans have so much to be angry with concerning this government and its phony wars. You have but two of you standing out here each week. If this was Germany and my country did what yours has done, there would be literally a thousand people out here with you.”
Well, it seems that my fellow citizens have become too comfortable living in this feudal society. Psychologists refer to this kind of mindset as that of enabling. How many Apple Annies must there be on the street corners of our nation before we all get wise?”

Now most appliances last less than 10 years and some not even five. And, they are mostly unreparable. Capitalism/waste big time.

Americas DeepState loves false flags. Ever since the sinking of the U.S. battleship Maine in Havana harbor (1898), it has been the preferred way to whip up suicidal patriotic fervor among the otherwise inert masses.
As Aeschylus, a Greek tragic dramatist (525 BC – 456 BC) said long ago, In war, truth is the first casualty. We can now expect that, with U.S. spy-satellite information, Yidland, Araby and other dog-waggers will do the State Departments will for it. The media-anesthetized plebs will see only one side of the story: America good, Syria (and Yemen, Iran or other U.S. target) bad.
Yup, lets use our God-given, Yid-Cretin nukes on them. And lets not inquire too closely into what is really happening in Syria or Yemen. Because Yahweh the Yid-chosen god wants us to.
Also, let us not speculate about the possibility that we might spawn thermonuclear war. Because Jeezus doesnt want us to worry our microcephalic brains about that.
