The Trump administration has already built its case for Iran war
President Donald Trump may not need Congress to go to war with Iran.
That’s the case his lieutenants have been quietly building as tensions between the two nations have escalated.
The key elements involve drawing links between al Qaeda and Iran and casting Iran as a terrorist threat to the U.S. — which is exactly what administration officials have been doing in recent weeks.
That could give Trump the justification he needs to fight Iran under the still-in-effect 2001 use-of-force resolution without congressional approval.
That prospect is unsettling to most Democrats, and even some Republicans, in part because Iran didn’t attack the U.S. on 9/11, in part because there is a reluctance to engage U.S. forces in another theater of war, and in part because many lawmakers believe Congress has given too much of its war-making authority to the president over the years.
With Congress unlikely to grant him new authority to strike Iran under the current circumstances, and amid a campaign of “maximum pressure” against the regime in Tehran that has escalated tension between the two countries, Trump administration officials have sent strong signals that they will be ready to make an end run around lawmakers, using the 2001 authorization for the use of military force — or “AUMF” in Washington-speak — if necessary.
That law gave the president the power to use force against “nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.”
Earlier this month, the U.S. deployed an aircraft carrier strike group to the region. Three U.S. officials told NBC that a surge in American forces in the region was a response in part to intelligence-gathering suggesting that the Iranian regime had given proxies a green light to attack U.S. personnel and assets in the region.
And in recent weeks, the Trump administration has accused Iran of assisting al Qaeda, designated an arm of the Iranian military as a foreign terrorist organization and accused Iran of being linked to a terrorist threat against the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
National Security Council officials declined to speak on the record with NBC about whether such incidents would satisfy the legal threshold necessary for the president to determine he had the authority to use force against Iran.
But former government lawyers familiar with the 2001 law and its applications say it’s obvious from those moves what the Trump administration is trying to do.
“The whole thing is building up to the notion that they don’t have to go to Congress for approval,” Yale University law professor Harold Koh, who served as the State Department’s top lawyer under Secretary Hillary Clinton, said in a telephone interview with NBC News.
Yet Koh said an attempt to shoehorn Iran into the 2001 AUMF is absurd and shouldn’t pass legal muster.
“The theory of war powers has to be that Congress doesn’t just sign off once,” he said. “The suggestion now that Iran attacked us on 9/11 is ridiculous.”
The original law essentially creates a two-part test for the president to make a determination that force is warranted: a country, group or person has aided al Qaeda and force is necessary to prevent a terrorist attack against the U.S. from that entity.

At the same time, the Democrat traitor party continues to invent more “rights” for ever more “protected groups” (i.e., for those who are not White, “cis-gendered,” normal, non-stoner citizens). The corrupt oligarchs and their power-crazed puppets have destroyed the American will to survive, a will otherwise common to all other forms of life.
Amusingly, the above-mentioned Esper prattled on and on about developing, buying and deploying ever newer weaponry, logistics and tactics, even while admitting that only a tiny percentage of the populace is deluded into caring about “serving their country” to satisfy the egos and bank accounts of the imperial DC fiends and power elites who squander and deform military lives (never mind the countless foreign innocents slaughtered).
On the global stage, the nature of the Endgame is shifting rapidly. It is no longer massed armies which matter. Moreover, the new military weapons, forces and tactics of opposing powers are of importance mainly in buying time before nukes settle the score. Both the Russians and the Chinese know that they cannot succeed in traditional conflicts which depend on US-scale economies for support . That is why they are pouring most of their resources into the far cheaper, far more effective cyber realm, circumglobal space domination and ultra-powerful missile, standoff, and hypersonic development.
As military TV showmen and commentators blather on about how the Empire can win by pinpointing Russian and Chinese targets, they conveniently ignore mentioning that within fifteen minutes of any serious casus belli, Ragnarök will begin. And that is something that the Indispensable Nation with all of its ballyhooed “values” will not win.

Russian missiles are less than 20 minutes flight time from DC or San Fran. The US missile defense shield is antique and full of holes. Most of it points north while Russian missiles can come from any direction today, at hypersonic speeds. Even the US military concedes that they have no way to intercept them. Yes, the next big war will not last long. 24 hours? But it could end all life on earth.
Meanwhile, we are in a hybrid world war that will also end the US as a major country. It will just take longer. Wait and see.

I agree with this article in regards to what is coming for China. They have been growing too long at a breakneck speed and now are approaching a quasi-middle income trap. Yet, China has also cemented themselves globally throughout the 3rd world in projects and investments. This makes them a global economic driver within the global system also. This is a new phenomenon in the economic world. So this is a new situation for middle income nations transitioning than we saw in the past. China is fast approaching a global decline in trade smacking down their heavy industry that is far in excess of what is needed in China or globally. In the past China offloaded excess production to keep these Zombie industries going. Now the global system is moving into an era of managed trade both by agreement and conflict. The China housing bubble is through growing but still inflated. This sector will not pull along Chinese growth anymore.
China is now locked into a decline. How bad depends on how far this global trade decline goes. They have the BRI but this will be a further trap of export driven projects in a time of global trade decline. This is an effort that was 10 years too late. The BRI is just exported Chinese mal-investment the world does not need. Think about all those wasted resources and CO2 additions. The BRI will have significant Chinese exposure to projects that do not bring a return on investment. This is already the case with completed projects in Africa.
Those who may think check mate China might fail to see this Chinese decline will further take the rest of the world down. China is too big to fail and too big to decouple from. The US and Europe will be drawn down along with China. The reason for this is because over the last decade it has been the huge never before seen Chinese credit impulse that has kept the global economy stimulated. This Chinese credit impulse is reaching its climax at a time global trade is imploding. This is a very dangerous time for the entire global economy but by far the worst for China because of the potential for a violent economic swing from 6% to 2% growth. This is further an issue for China because of its newly minted middle class that is as large as the entire US population. These people are educated and affluent and they will not take decline well at all. Many of these Chinese have only known break neck growth.

Monday morning coffee and two hours of watching the US commit suicide. My usual routine, for about 50 years, has been to start my day with the news and coffee. I have observed the slow disintegration of America. It has now reached the hockey stick point on the chart where the shit will soon hit the fan big time. The insanity is no longer covered up but exposed for all the world to see.
We (those 7+ billion of us outside the US) are all hoping it does not go nuclear but does end with the US powerless to meddle in other country’s affairs. Scanning over 100 headlines this AM, I have not seen even ONE positive about America. Not one. A typical day for the last 20+ years. Only more insanity.
Those who share the real world with me will understand my comment and mostly agree. The deniers will just ignore it or contribute some immature putdown, as if killing the messenger changes the message. Soon, it will be too blatant for even the most rabid supporter of the failing empire to ignore. We live in very exciting times.
