Russia did not back down, since they are producing conventional oil which costs < $50 / barrel.

It was the shale producers who buckled down. Anyway the oil prices are increasing again. Besides Russia has many other goods to sell.

Once upon a time… is how many of these, “I know why” articles should start. Not saying that this is not one of the many reasons, but, if it was the main cause, they must have been using idiots in the planning process. Wait, that is probably the case considering the leaders involved.

They should have seen that China would not let it happen for a number of reasons, and, that China has its own plans for the Us and it ain’t pretty. It is the take-down of the USD as the major trade/reserve currency. This gave them the perfect chance to pull that off, and they are well on the road to that goal. But then, the Us is getting good at shooting itself in the foot. Maybe they should go to Australia and learn about boomerangs?

I will dismiss this as tin foil hat drivel. There is no evidence of the Saudis flooding the market with their mythical oil capacity. None whatsoever. The only data from last fall indicates a modest drop in their supply. The oil price drop is primarily driven by a global recession (which is ignored or denied by the media) and the significant new supply from US non-conventional production over the last few years.

It may be true that futures markets are being manipulated. But that is hardly a Saudi endeavour.

Putin isn’t the sort of person to knuckle under to the Saudis and obama.

The person who will back down is obama—in fact just last month obama signaled that he is now willing to accept the continuation of the Assad regime.

How do you know what sort of a person Putin is Plant? Have you met him? Do you really still believe that Obama is calling all of the shots?

Have you actually done any research into the Assad government yourself Plant, or do you just parrot what your corporately controlled media dictates to you?

Honestly Plant, do you have the slightest ability to think for yourself? Or are you just one of the mindless sheep, with a large mouth?

Or……. are you really what I have heard people accuse you of being before, a planted agent?

In a real world, not the imperial one dictated by DC, all countries would be sovereign and allowed to do as they wish inside their borders. That includes beheading, dictators, etc. Only when that country tried to force their will on another country or to expand their borders by force, would it be punished by the rest of the world.

But, we have the meddlers that have to keep their war machine spinning so they meddle in every country they can find an excuse to. A failed democracy trying to force democracy on everyone else.

This stupid conspiracy theory brought to you by a big purveyor of conspiracy theories, ZEROHEDGE.

  8. GregT on Wed, 4th Feb 2015 12:39 am

There are conspiracy theories, and then there are conspiracy facts. Human beings conspire. Always have, always will. You have a choice Spec. You can either believe the conspiracy theories fed to you by those that are conspiring against you, or you can think for yourself. Your choice.

    Choose wisely.

Speculawyer: If you knew how many people that think that peak oil is a conspiracy theory…

Mind you – i am not saying this article is true – but the “conspiracy theory” and “tin foil hat” has been grossly overused – to the point that anything that msm is not saying is a conspiracy theory.

Just what TPTB want… 🙂 another conspiracy theory…

  10. Davy on Wed, 4th Feb 2015 6:31 am

I would have to say conspiracy theories emanate from the attempt to study issues that are non-linear with a linear thinking. We just can’t get a handle on our global BAU that is a self-organizing animal. How does the hand have any clue how the liver works but they work together. ZH has issues with sensationalism. I am a steady ZH reader but I filter through the mold and mildew. Some things immediately smell of the cat piss of agendas.

Many of these ideas in this article have a point but there are forces at work way above the feeble action of our incompetent global leadership in their unholy pursuit of brinkmanship. All nations are part of this and it is our dead end as bottleneck man. We are not meant to be in a hyper complex global society. We have adapted as a semi-nomadic species in small tribes and communities. Human civilizations always end in disaster. Why should our horrible one be any different?

  11. Boat on Wed, 4th Feb 2015 9:49 am

    Davy,
How can you say our civilization is so horrible. I like my tv and swimming pool and comfortable life style when I come home from work. Health care and good plentiful food. To make this happen for all the world requires around 5% of the world to be farmers. anything over 5% is a waste of efficiency. Human civilization is much more efficient than it has ever been and is headed in the right direction among the educated. When ex farmers become educated and fit into a more efficient society the human race wins. PS educated societies self control their populations and ideologies for the greater good as a whole.

Boat if you can’t see the destruction of a planet by a species that feels exceptional then yea everything is good. No problems be happy.

Boat said: “How can you say our civilization is so horrible?”

Like you, Boat, I am lucky (and skillful?) enough to have a very comfortable life which derives from my education, my skills, my work ethic and probably other factors that are due to a combination of luck and my just making it happen.

But if I look outside of this little bubble of comfort that I currently live in, it is easy for me to see the massive waste of resources, the toxic build-up that our civilization is leaving in its wake, the many species that humanity is killing off, the desperate suffering of huge swaths of humanity who are born into a world of no hope, the brutal treatment of humans by other humans, and so much more.

Boat, how can you say that our civilization does NOT have very horrible aspects? Sure, you’re good for now, but can you see outside of that little bubble that you live in? If not, open your eyes and take a look.

And most of all, dwell for a moment on the fact that no matter how “set” you are right now, your comfy position is resting on a crumbling foundation — the same crumbling foundation that our entire civilization is built on, and that would be a foundation built on vast quantities of cheap fossil fuels.

You’ve been lucky, Boat, to have been able to develop that blind POV that you express. But your luck is running out, fast, just like it is for the rest of us living the “good life” during the tail end of the Age of Oil.

” PS educated societies self control their populations and ideologies for the greater good as a whole.”

Our so called educated society spends much of it’s time figuring out ways to more efficiently rape, loot, and pillage the Earth, so that we can have TVs and swimming pools. Neither of which are necessary for human survival. We are exchanging a planet capable of supporting life, for short term creature comforts.

On the issue of Putin:  For those who imagine that Putin is just a Russian patriot, it might help to read Angus Roxburgh’s Strongman or Bill Browder’s Red Notice.  If we think that America has problems, a comparison with contemporary Russia and its dictator will provide us with a clearer perspective on the overall global situation in which we are entrapped.  And by the by:  as Plantagenet correctly says, Putin isn’t the sort of person to knuckle under to the Saudis and Ø.

  16. Davy on Thu, 5th Feb 2015 5:09 am

Thee, in agreement with Putin. Putin is no patriot nor global hero. He is a blue eyed devil bent on his own ambitions of wealth and power. Any Putin lover here must answer the question of how a lowly KGB agent became the richest politician in the world. Putin poster hangers should self-reflect and ask themselves why do I like what in reality is a scum bag? Is it because he hates the west and I hate the west so this guy is great? If I remember right that was true with Hitler and the Germans. We project good or bad from how we benefit. That is human nature at a guttural level.

Putin rationalizes his corruption as good for Russians but that is how devils think. He and his mafia soldiers are in the meantime raping Russia. I will say this he is the most effective and competent leader on the global scene now. That is a sad state of affairs folks when the best of our global leadership is a devil. At least he is only a man. In the US we have an evil den of thousands of thieves. This actually is a worse situation. Have you ever tried to kill a bunch of cockroaches? It is a nasty experience to swat one and 10 scurry past you.

Fox news at its best! If Putin has Asperger man that mean Obama must be a borderline personality in comparison.
